Your stuck on the power of suggestive thought.
Either you believe it was faster before or the customer is telling you they think it was. Thus these suggestions are making you believe the new drive is slower without any actual evidence to back up the claim.
Now it is entirely possible you got a bad batch of drives.
Like I said you can try tweaking the windows settings. Are you testing on the battery or plugged in? What are the power settings set to? Performance or battery life?
Is something slamming the drive causing it to be slow ? You can try disabling windows search and prefetch and see if that helps.
At the end of the day your only going to get so much out of the drive no matter what you do.
