Self Computer Repair for laptop...

Probably didn't preheat the oven long enough, you can't just be throwin the laptop
into a oven that isn't up to temp.

Honorable mention to a guy I used to work with when I did arcade repair.

The shop computer was running like a dog, some kinda compaq with windows XP.

I'm shopping out a pinball machine one day, and I hear this "BANG BANG BANG" like
someone is hammering something. I though I was alone in the shop, so I go over to find
this guy throwing the hard drive at the ground. The machine was locking up when it was
booting windows XP, and this ole "trick" worked before on "stuck hard drives"

Ow, ow, ow. Hurts just to read about it. That's kinda like my advice for laptops that are intransigent: "Throw it against the wall a few times until there's something obvious to fix."

Follow up on this:

After the data recovery/transfer/set-up of new computer, which included a TON of software install, configured six email accounts/outlook, I delivered the new laptop. She looks it over, determines that all is in place. I ask her if she wants me to "recycle" her old laptop, which is a courtesy I offer to all of my customers, plus I can get a few free parts from the pc's sometimes, but probably not in this sad case

She says no, she will keep it and try a couple of new fixes she has discovered on the internet. She's determined to destroy this thing, lol.

I did mention to her to remove the battery if she tries anything like baking it again, and she just gave me a blank stare...I think I know what that meant. The last baking must have included the battery as well.

For her sake, I hope none of the fixes require an open flame.
