I'm looking for a small simple NAS enclosure, 2 bay gig nic, RAID good quality. I know what we normally use but those are really for much larger clients. This is for a small client 1TB. We have WD SATA RED drives in stock. Opinions please.

I usually recommend and use Synology units. Or ioSafe when fireproof/waterproof is necessary. If that's over budget, I try Netgear units.

Guess it depends just what it's going to be used for. Most 2 bay units are junk (IMO) with slow read/write speeds. Even some of the 4 bay units like the Netgear NV+ have transfer speeds under 15MBs.
You might look at the Qnap units. We just recently purchased two used units, one is a 6 bay and the otheer an 8 bay, both came filled with 2TB hard drives.
We set one up as Raid 5 and the other as Raid 6 with transfer speeds at over 80MBs. Picked up the 6 bay for $400 and the 8 bay for $600

We now have 2 - 4 bay NV+'s sitting on the shelf - only good for home media storage these days but it takes forever to copy files to it compared to a larger Qnap unit. Thought about using them for backups but it would take like forever to 'restore' a client's files.

I second the Synology solution. Really an awesome product. Amongst other features is a web based remote file access which allows uploads and downloads without setting up a VPN tunnel.

Synology for me as well. I have a small business and a few home businesses and residents running on the 2 bay units. Got another one shortly going in. No problems with them at all.

Make sure you have a solid backup in place for whatever unit you put into place. We very frequently get NAS units in for data recovery because the only copy of the client's files were stored on the unit and the tech who setup it up told them that the RAID was just as good as a backup.

The smallest Synology I've implemented is DS214 (2 bay)
It rocks specially with the new DSM 5.0

They also have the new cloud agent/station which is similar to drop box.

I'll agree with the Synology units as well. I did manage to check out the Buffalo two bay NAS unit last week, but the build quality was lacking in comparison to the Synology unit.

Yet another vote for Synology. I've used the DS 214+ and 415+ and haven't had a failure or complaint yet. Rock solid with WD Reds.
