SimpleHelp Vs. Kabuto

Hey all!

I'm not mad @Your PCMD haha

We are going to do this, but first comes windows updates, and getting TechSuite Beta out of "Beta" - since that will be the method through which "custom scripts" is accomplished.

Let me know if you guys have any questions,

Ian

Meaning you will be asking for 25 dollars a month for the ability to use custom scripts?

So before I comment on pricing, want to define what we're building. We want to enable you to easily perform tasks on computers that you're managing, one-time or on a schedule. We think we'll do this via TechSuite in one way or another, silently, and in the background (so user never notices). This has a couple benefits like: reports after completing actions, really good custom script engine, etc. We imagine this will be easily accomplished via a new tab in the Device page on the Kabuto Online Dashboard. Before we begin building this on the Kabuto end, TechSuite will have to come out of Beta.

Anyway, that concept is subject to change ^

Regarding pricing, we're not far enough on it yet to know how it'll be priced. If you have a TechSuite subscription already, it's likely that it will come at no additional charge. Even if you don't have a TechSuite subscription, we may bake it into the Monitoring Upgrade at no additional fee. I guess it's possible it'll be a separate Upgrade which you'd have to pay for, but I'm really not sure yet.

tl;dr i have no clue

With Kabuto I do need an easier way to push it out en-masse to migrate say from an existing RMM. I did toy with the idea but I had to write a load of cmd switches per customer each time in order to silently push the file.

Sure thing, totally understandable. I'm not sure how we might do that, since your alternative RMM solutions probably won't let us write integrations :)

We could probably make it so you didn't have to enter the customer name and company info, so that you could just install Kabuto via your RMM, then enter the information on the Kabuto online dashboard after-the-fact. You'd have computer-name and other hardware info to identify the computers.

Open to any other ideas of course :)

Still waiting on kabuto to allow custom scripts and then at that point maybe ill make the switch.
This is why I made the jump to MAX recently. I use Kabuto still for residential presence. (Leads feature with RepairShopr) Dont get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Kabuto. It just needs a bit more time in the oven for my business clients.

Perhaps have the command switches as optional on the silent installer - so I can run the script as /company COMPANY NAME for 10 computers, or /name JOHN DOE on one PC.

I've been using SimpleHelp ever since LogMeIn free died. It's far from perfect, but serves my needs just fine. The unattended log in works quite easily once you've installed it on each machine you need access to. I like the fact that it's cross platform and will automatically download the appropriate PC, Mac or Linux version based on the machine it detects on the web interface. The initial handshake does take a minute or so at times, so that can get annoying but once it's connected you're usually good to go. It's not always the smoothest, especially if you've got to look at any sort of moving pictures, video, etc. but then what remote access software is good for this. It also has some nice tech features like the ability to open ports on the remote machine, blank out the monitor to protect your secrets, lock out the remote machines keyboard/mouse (nice for those customers who like to hijack the mouse while you're helping them). You can also white label it with your own branding so you look really professional when giving support to customers. It also has a nice screen cast feature which I sometimes use if I just need to demonstrate something or show someone their data before mailing their recovered data back to them.

Overall, it's not quite as smooth as a product like TeamViewer. However the pay once model and unlimited number of machines you can add is really nice for tech support. You license only limits you to number of concurrent remote sessions. I personally run it from just an Intel NUC sitting next to my NAS's. Doesn't require any high end specs for the server side, but having fast internet does help. I'm usually using it on a fiber line at both ends, so perhaps those with low quality internet will have more glitches than I have. Generally the only places I've had connection issues was when helping someone in a distant country or island with spotty internet to begin with. For those type of areas something like TeamViewer definitely works better.

I don't use the remote monitoring so I can't really speak on that. I'm still running a pretty old version and haven't updated it since I first purchased it (back when LogMeIn free died). Much of the functionality of the monitoring has been added in more recent versions, as the older version was very basic in it's functions.

Guys what are you thinking about LiteManager, it is free for up to 30 PC, if need more $10 per PC or $300 HelpDesk license,
lifetime license and technicians unlimited.
You can use it for remote monitoring or remote support.

Does simple help allow own branding, or is that extra?

Yes it does. Part of the standard package. If you trial SimpleHelp. The control panel is nothing like what you get when you set it up on your server. A bit confusing at first but a non-issue.

LiteManager is reminding me of AeroAdmin in the past (another Russian remote app). They get users that are the test subjects that help them develop their product and then turn it into a paid product.

Never used AeroAdmin, it is looks like simple TeamViewer...
I have been using LiteManager since 2010 and it still free for Home and Business use, price is not change. All updates is free.

LiteManager 100% secure, as TeamViewer or RAdmin

Security is one of the strongest aspects of the program. There are several security subsystems – Windows NT and LiteManager. All data are transferred over the network in a compressed and encrypted format. The program uses the most advanced technologies and key exchange protocols (2048-bit RSA signature key and 256-bit AES session key).

Built-in IP address filter allows you to grant or deny access only to the required range of iP addresses. The program provides protection from DDOS attacks and attacks involving multiple attempts to enter a password. For more reliability, we advise you to change the port number that is assigned by default.

Built-in IP filter will allow you to precisely specify the available IP ranges of trusted computers. You can prohibit a certain connection mode for all clients on the server. You can also set a password for changing settings of the LiteManager-Server module.
