Macbook pro High Sierra 10.13.6,2.5 ghz i5, 4gb ram.

System is slow opening programs can take up to 5 mins after clicking icon, have done a smart test and surface scan show no issues with hard drive.
Have run malware scan using malwarebytes cleared caches, trash ect. still really slow any ideas?.
Also forced spotlight to re-scan waited hours still slow.

Not a Mac person but 4 gigs? And I assume a spinner for a hard drive? Can you even expect much even in the Mac world?
Not much i ran a cleaning using CCleaner now its running as fast as it should did not think Macs needed to be cleaned odd?.

I get 1 or 2 Macs a year around here most people have PC's.

That particular model supports 16GB RAM DDR3 1600Mhz and you should definitely push the SSD and your customer will get his machine running has it never did before

Should probably replace the hdd cable as well then as that model has a known issue.
Already did that when i upgraded the hard drive last year, odd though when i did a through cleaning with CCleaner the machine was back to its normal speed i guess Macs do need cleaning sometimes.

an ssd will make a night and day difference with that laptop and version of the OS. It may also be related to the cable. Do a quick clone to an ssd for an easy test
