Had a customer bring her computer in and she wanted us to install MS Office Pro Plus 2019 that she bought from Software Max for $60. I questioned her on it and she said she talked to them and it was legit. I don't think so. I searched TN but didn't find any discussions and Googled it and it only had reviews on a Facebook page and it didn't look good.

Anyone had any experience with them? We are not going to install it but I wanted to show her the problem.

Thanks in Advance

I’m not sure how they do it, but you can buy Office 2019 on eBay for $5-6 bucks. eBay is pretty tough on piracy and I’m sure it would be quickly removed if it was suspect. I have heard on other forums of people who purchased a $5.50 Office 2019 license on eBay and it worked great. It sounds fishy, if it stays on eBay for longer than a day it must be ok. Any thoughts?

I have oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you as well.

We go through this discussion every few months when new "techs" sign up.
Having to tell a tech the right and wrong of purchasing and using software in the running of a computer repair business gets old around here.

Sorry Jerry - I have been heavily involved in the computer industry for over 45 years and am 75 years old and have owned 4 computer shops and currently have two so therefore I don't feel I'm a NEW tech.

I KNOW it is bogus - I was just asking if anyone had specific information on Software Max specifically. This is a very good customer but also very strong willed. I told her all about this type of operation. I was just trying to find out if anyone else had any experience with this company. If so it would behoove us to get them out of business for the sake of other people. I will be calling MS today.

Lately I find that there are a number of people on Technibbles that are very overbearing in their posts. I have been a member of TN for years and it seems to have just started recently. Before there was no belittling or know-it-alls telling everyone how smart they are and how rich they are and how they charge $$500 for service calls, etc, etc. Come on everyone, let's get back to what TN was created for.

This was not directed at you. It is a general comment because of post #3.

I know most here know the sites like that sell bogus keys. But we have all had clients fall for them and and the eBay sellers as well.
I personally just note in my invoice that the purchase was made by client and I will not be liable for future issues with said software.
Some will have issues down the road with activation and transfer of the software and I just hold back the urge to say "I told you so" and have them purchase the legit one and charge what is needed to correct the issue.

@River Valley Computer, also... and this goes for all of us here.

Consider the demographic!

Computer Geeks / Engineers aren't known for their social skills. So are the posts being overbearing? Or are they just being blunt and direct?

We have an annoying human tendency to read far too much negativity into text, when the medium conveys no emotion... this isn't rational, but it is also human. I'm just as guilty of it as the next person, despite my best efforts to be otherwise.

No, eBay is not tough enough on piracy. That’s a laugh.
