Hi there,

Have a toshiba satellite laptop A200 1IZ model, and no display whatever I tried. I have connected an external display via its VGA port, still no display...

Disassembled it and turned it on without keyboard, without wifi card, and with the mains power without battery too... The power LED turns on but no display. I even removed the RAM sticks [has 2] and swapped each other or left one of them out, still no success..

I am now to the point of disassembling the screen, but before can you please confirm this..
Is it possible to remove the LCD screen bezel, hinges etc, detach it completely and try it only with the external monitor connected? Would in general laptops be able to display onto an external monitor without the LCD screens attached?

Btw I have tried the Fn+F5 button for the screen output to be sent to the external monitor, still no success...

Thanks in advance,
Wally

Yep, no post codes or beeps..only the power button flashes from blue to amber to indicate that no RAM is installed, otherwise stays lit blue with no display. Forgot to mention that the CPU fan spins at the beginning and then stops too

For the age of the laptop, best solution is to get a new one but if the customer is willing, you might swap the mobo for another one. Toshiba mobo numbers are usually under the RAM or on the slots, start with a V000XXXXXX. If it is the exact number, the hard drive will usually work right away. Don't swap if you cannot find the exact number, you might have to get another CPU, heatsink, fan, even the LCD cable might not fit. Hard drive will need windows installed again too.
