Battery was bad on sony vaio laptop...bought replacement...came with instalation disk(assume drivers) when asked to reboot, nothing...no power lights for a/c or battery. Replaced a/c socket. nothing. Another tech said maybe it cooked the bios. How do I reinstall the bios onto a motherboard that has no power? Or maybe other thoughts? Thanks

Are you an end user or a technician? This is your first post here and this forum is for those that have a business or plan to start one. What have you done to troubleshoot this issue other than asking for help?

Agreed... I have never used a driver for laptop battery never even seen one and I have worked on plenty of laptops in my 8 years as a tech..

Obviously you and your "other tech" are not techs. There are no battery drivers...as well as how would you "cook the bios"? lol

Some of the Vaios have a chip in the battery so if you try to use a non-Sony it won't work without a BIOS hack. I have only run across one of these so far and I don't recall the model. Even without the bios being updated the machine would still run on AC power with the aftermarket battery installed, but it wouldn't charge. If it won't power on at all I would suspect a hardware problem, not bios related.
