At least in south-central Wisconsin, Spectrum has announced basic speeds are moving from 300 to 400 mbs and that I need to upgrade my modem. Hmmm...... last time I checked I was getting ~350 mbs. Checking now (both Google and Ookla) it's at ~480 mbs. Guess no new hardware needed at least for me. No complaints either except maybe slow upload speeds (12 mbs) but not really an issue for me. Spectrum around here does a pretty good job.

From my experience much revolves around what DOCSIS standard your modem is using. In the past where ever I could I have used my own modem. Every time I got a new modem that supported a higher DOCSIS standard I had an increase in speed. Often 200-300%. Unfortunately now Spectrum Business only supports their modems.

Best thing I've done recently was to change my ISP from SuperLoop (50~60 mbps) to Telstra 5G (450~600mbps) for the same $$ per month!
Wow what a difference that speed makes!Internet..jpg

My experience with Spectrum is that there is a lot of dependance on how good the local infrastructure is. I'm somewhat rural, still in a good size town, but they don't put a lot into the infrastructure here. Slow to get updates and only one option for a competitor and they are still laying cable so not everywhere in town. I really hate how the cable companies have set up an oligopoly.

Spectrum is also rolling out symmetrical speeds, I believe they refer to it as high split. So instead of 400 / 20 you'll get 400 / 400. Similar to fiber. But fiber still has 1/2 the latency for me - 15ms to 8.8.8.8 for AT&T fiber vs 38ms on Spectrum.
