Have an odd issue, never come across before.
Have a Windows Xp Pro system, that had been entered into safe mode via MSCONFIG.

Now the system will never get out of SAFE MODE, even with all selections set back as per normal.

Have Tried

Using Install media and Recovery mode and rebuilding Bootcfg - didnt work
System Restore - no restore points

and now the damn mice or keyboard wont detect either.

Can anyone give me some advice here as I am stumped..thanks

Off line sfc scannow via command prompt?

Make and model of the pc in question would also help.

Re the kob mouse issue, is this via the ps2, or USB.

Obviously you've tried both versions, and alternate keyboard etc.

Does the kb work in bios?

Is an Asus Mobo - cant see model right now as in rebuild mode again

Have not tried Scannow as yet.

PS/2 Keyboard works - so must be shutting off USB devices
USB works fine in BIOS and has Legacy Mode ON

Rebuilt BootCfg again still nothing grr.

thanks

That is odd. And it's just going straight into safe mode, yeah? No errors, BSODs or menu appearing before it enters safe mode?

Yeap it is indeed, freaking annoying to be honest.

No no errors, BSODs or anything just hello safe mode every time.

In process of trying all these -

C:\ATTRIB -H C:\\boot.ini
C:\ATTRIB -S C:\\boot.ini
C:\ATTRIB -R C:\\boot.ini
C:\del boot.ini
C:\BOOTCFG /Rebuild
C:\CHKDSK /R /F [upto here -p though only chose /r]
C:\FIXBOOT

if this fails just going to backup all data and nuke it, annoying me too much.

Don't forget, with XP you still have the old 'repair' option, assuming you have a sys disk.

Yes I had tried that as well thanks, threw up cannot copy WHATEVERFILE.dll error numerous times.
Tried different OS discs and DVDROMS, still same error.

Ended up zeroing drive and clean install, installed fine. Now installing drivers, updates and apps fun yay!

I had imaged drive and made a FABs5 Autobackup just incase to full nuke.
Drivers I couldnt get via usual method as had the retarded SAFE mode lock.
Ended up downloading drivers to dvd and transfering via that.

Can be closed now -thanks all for help :)
