Another thing to try is discharging the capacitors by removing all power sources and holding down the power button (or shorting the pins) for 30 seconds. I've fixed a healthy amount of non-posts by doing this.

TO make sure I am not reading too far into that, just the power or unhook the power from the system, the power from the PSU, etc?

Unlplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery

I have two motherboards in the shop right now I really would like someone to tell us how know if it is the MOBO or CPU. I have been plagued with this problem for sometime now..........

We've all been plagued with this problem. Apparently the only real way, other than possibly some very expensive things, is by substitution. Maybe someday...

and when you can't substitute and wait out a customer for a couple of days for your substitution sometimes people look for other obvious things that might lead one to believe one or the other.

Now if someone won't mind telling me which came first the chicken or the egg, I think this will be a pretty productive discussion
