Just finished at a customers home.
They have not had broadband for over 2 weeks and the kids are going up the wall.

They are on Talk Talk/ Tiscali.
So far they have had a Talk Talk engineer, a BT Engineer a BT Open Reach engineer all saying dfferent things.
They have had new cable from the pole to the house.
All the sockets replaced
I have tried 3 routers now all connect then the super fast 1Mb down slows down then stops never to reconnect.

Last BT engineer said it was the router causing the line crackle and lack of broadband.

Customer was on the phoen to their support again tonight while I was there. They asked him to do all the usual stuff for the fourth time.

Mind you it was hard for either of us not to laugh when just before he was passed to (fobbed off) to a manager the support guy asked him how he rated their support.

Litening to the scripts they are all going through and the lies of we are checking this that and your dog to find out that they can't get an engineer out until Tuesday is beyond a joke.

I am amazed that they manage to stay in business so long.

Oh their support hours are 0800-2000hrs and we called at 1900hrs to be initially met with sorry we are closed please call back between 0800 & 2000hrs

One of the best items in my arsenal...

BT-Voyager-220V.jpg

Good old BT Voyager 220V ADSL Router. Configured with a login that will work on any UK ADSL network. If this thing doesn't get ADSL, then the ADSL is screwed, and its the service provider at fault. Has come in very useful at times.

As for TalkTalk/Tiscali, all I can say is something about peanuts and monkeys.

I've had many deals with them and shudder any time I have to deal with them. In fact in on first name terms with the ceo of BT, open reach and tiscali. Management and there pas.

I'm trying to get one of my managed clients to move but that's another story.

How does that work on any adsl network Andy? You mean you configure the adsl login to the respective provider?

I have a old Zyxel that just works so if you can share you inside info then that would be great with a login that works on any ISP

Is it bt_test_user@startup_domain with a blank password?

It's been a while since I've powered it up, so not sure what userid is in there. Pretty sure it isn't the BT Test account. I'll have to have a look, but it won't be till Tuesday at the earliest.

Andy

For any broadband it would have to be the bt test account yes. It would connect with a BT IP address but not browse in general. Known working hardware is very useful though.
