TEAMS Syncing Woes ...

I have a client who has accumulated about 25 years worth of data into a SINGLE Teams Channel. Well call the Team Contoso and the Channel "General" which is standard for Teams. I have spent hours upon hours with with them trying to get the data separated into different Teams based on the type of data that belongs there, then moving it directly through SharePoint on the backend. This was done... 1.) To shrink the channel and 2.) to provide a means to separate non sensitive data from sensitive data like HR Data.

I have re-organized about 60% of their data and when running tests I am seeing a couple of serious issues.

1.) I have a Test Team so Test > General (Channel). In the General Channel is a Test Folder and a single Test Document in it.

When I go to sync this test channel OneDrive spins and churns and says it's processing 8,000 changes ... Why? There is one Folder and One Document in the Channel. It takes 4-5 minutes to "sync" this General channel with almost no data in it.

I tested another folder that had 100MB in it with a total of 673 Files, and 12 Folders. It churned up to processing 150,000 changes.

Is it processing data from the entire team even though I'm only trying to sync a 100MB channel?

Edit: Am now up to and over processing 200,000 changes for a 100MB folder with 673 Files, and 12 Folders

But the test channel I synced with a single folder and a single file that triggered a processing of 9000 changes was a new team, with a new channel, with a new folder, with a new file....?

No, it triggered an update that caused OneDrive to pull 9000 changes from everywhere it was configured to sync.
