To discount or not to discount...

I fixed my next door neighbour's computer this week and had him pay me in beer. It was an easy fix, lots of simply spyware and, as I take a pull off the bottle, I think to myself that there's something really nice about not having bought your booze.

family and close friends free.

Friends of friends, full price, no discount.

I have had trouble with friends getting discounts and then the friends of friends expecting it to be extended to them.

No more discounts . . . . . . except 8.675% for cash (local sales tax rate).

I don't usually give any discounts to extended family. The ones I actually spend some time with I do, but most I don't. They never cared when I was younger so why should I care now?

LOL Ain't that the truth!! Whenever I've done "quick fixes" for my inlaws it's never appreciated. We were visiting my wife's aunt and they had just upgraded to windows 7 and couldn't get their USB wifi card working. They swore it wasn't compatible even when I told them it would be. They started arguing with me about it and I was just like "let me see it". Less than a minute later the drivers were loaded and they were online. Did I get a thanks? Nope. I got a cold shoulder the rest of the time there. That's when I decided to play dumb for now on with them and not do anything for them anymore.
