Hi Guys & Girls.

I have got a Job with a Toshiba Equium A60 - PSA67E - 001001EN.

When i switch the laptop on it seems to pass the BIOS POST, However when the Operating System ( Windows XP Home ) starts to boot the system seems to either Crash/Hang or Reboot or Completly swich off. Sometimes the laptop switches on without the toshiba bios splash screen

I understand Toshiba laptops are common for overheating. I have cleaned the two fans and heatsinks inside for the CPU and GPU.

I have also started the laptop with just Battery Power and AC Power and AC With Battery, I have also disconected the battery removed the Power cable from DC Jack and held the power button down for 30-40 seconds, the connected battery followed by AC Cable.

Do you guys have any other suggestions ? :)

Use a bootcd and see if it does the same thing.
Toshibas are the most reliable brand there is. They don't have overheating problems except fo,r as with any brand, the very high performance >1000 dollar systems.

Hey,

Tried a bootable Windows CD, still without sucess,

Seems to boot from the cd then about 3 secnds later the system either reboots or freezes.

I thought it could be due to the system overheating, but fans are working and heatsinks are clear.

Still could be overheating if the heat sink isn't making good contact with the CPU - might try cleaning it up and reapplying thermal compound (gosh, I seem to say that a lot lately :) )

Might also try a Windows repair, "fixmbr" command - I had one the other day that hung after POST due to a corrupted MBR, though it didn't actually shut down.

I have cleaned the CPU & GPU Heatsinks & Fans twice, Ensuring the Thermal Compound evenly spead. lol

Plus... with this system constantly crashing/freezing or rebooting during it windows bootup screen i carnt log into windows.

LOL,i tried that aswell and with another hdd....

Anyways i have located the problems. Basically i didnt check the power supply as my client said it came with the laptop, however the voltage required is 19.5 this only has 18V, Also the amps were lower.

Replaced the charger and hey presto..... It Works
