I'm interested in getting to more wireless installations on a larger scale and seen various various discussions about the Ubiquiti hardware. They are available in the uk via Amazon and other distributors. So I would like to start a discussion on where you are using them. I.e. Residential, businesses, hotels etc. Has anyone done any of the courses available and certified? Are they worth it? I have quite a few clients with large houses so would like to promote wireless through the house. Any tips welcome especially Ubiquiti model numbers and installation scenarios.

Businesses, schools, pubs, restaurants, a hotel, an apartement complex and an apartment block. Would be excellent for high end residential. Haven't done any courses, figured it out as we went from manuals etc. I often now pair them with a custom built PFSense firewall for user security and bandwidth management.

We've really been belting them out lately.....in 2 weeks I'll be going a 3 story medical facility with them, going to use (so far I plan on using) 20 of them, plus the POE smart switches they sell so the switch area still looks nice 'n neat.

I've gotta say....fantastic performance and features for the price.

And them Pico M5's....you will_not_find_anything more powerful for a stand alone AP.

We're getting one of their edge routers for our office....they have a few different models, but look at the performance...over a gig of throughput for the base models, and that Pro model does over 8 gigs of throughput.

I do recommend you setup your own cloud controller...so you can manage them easier. One drawback if you're used to doing residential routers...there's no useful web admin on them to configure/manage them (the Unifi line). The Pico has a web admin. We have our controller on an Ubuntu server at RackSpaceCloud.

Once you're familiar with the Controller software...you'll find they are VERY capable devices, lots of features.
They really have a LOT of performance and features...that match full biz grade setups but at 1/3 the price. They're priced so you can sell them well under 100 bucks a pop for the Unifi 'n Unifi LR models...and make good profit. Compared to HP ProCurve or Cisco hardware that is 300+ bucks a pop.

You wanna see what the manager is like....get a hold of me, we can do a webinar thing.

^^^ This! .....For wireless deployments we use Ubiquiti and Mikrotik products almost exclusively these days.

Is anyone doing the Ubiquiti as a hardware as a service type thing? With the ability to manage them from the cloud, we've wanted to entertain the idea of HaaS.

Ive used them to link a marina up with its dock office that's on the water.
About to use them at a pool house for public wifi
have used the pico stations in warehouses.
about to use the Nanostations to link up some security cameras some distant light poles.
Love this stuff.

++ love the stuff in our area i have done some installs in campsites, a marina and quite a few barns that wanted internet from the house to the barn. also done a few where people wanted greater coverage outside their house (big back yrds)

great product.
