Universal AC Adapter

I am in the market for a quality universal AC adapter. I have no problem spending more if it is what I need.

What I am looking for is one that would give me maximum compatibility with as many laptops as possible via interchangeable tips. It would need to have either a variable voltage switch or a smart voltage sensor built in. Either one will do. I am finding that I am encountering more laptops that either have a bad adapter or it is missing.

I have several that I have my eye on including Targus.

It must be powerful enough to charge the battery.

Any recommendations?

I love my targus universals that we have.. Works for pretty much everything but giant asus/hp 7-9 amp chargers and netbooks. I've had 2 for years now and just picked up a 3rd when a customer left it with a dead laptop. Never had a problem with them

Things to consider

Some universals will not charge dell batteries

Hp sells their ac adapters that will fit most laptops in stores

Will not work on macs

Will not have every tip you need

May need more then 1 preferably ones that have different tips

Dont loose the tips

Label the ac adapters that are yours so you dont accidentally give it to a customer

That one on amazon looks pretty nice. I need to get my boss to start buying better ones. He gets the cheapest ones and they won't do the Dell/HP plug. I would rather have the auto voltage one, with the dell/hp tip, and that one being a car version is nice. Other then the universal we really don't stock any at all. We can get any ac adapter in 2 days or overnight if needed.

+1 for the Anker Charger........never had a problem with mine in over a year. As a matter of fact, all of their products I've used have been very good.

Also have a Targus, agian no issues. I've had this one for over 2 years now.

I have not had a problem with any of the ebay ones I've used. Not saying that I wont, but I haven't.

Have any of you seen problems with the ebay ones?

I use a Cooler Master SNA95. It's been excellent. No problems, plus it has a USB port to charges phones and the like. However, I don't think Cooler MAster makes this particular model any more; the few that are available are too expensive. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Cooler Master model to replace this one.

Something to keep in mind about universals: Dell laptops don't like non-Dell power adapters. They will power up and run with my SNA95, but the system flashes a scary warning during POST, and the battery won't charge.

I use a Rosewill RMNA-11001 and a Bytecc -Slim-90-LCID...both work fine and have many adapters....
