Unusual backlight problem

Dropped laptop, image gone. Looks like it's the screen.

I change the screen and I get a picture but no backlight. Since there is just the display cable going to the LCD and no inverter cable I figure it's a bad screen. I get another screen, same problem. Now I'm truly confused. Why is there no backlight?

Recheck the connectors on the display cable.

Also try toggling any of the display (F9) function buttons. Could be a bad cable, circuit or a blown fuse on the mobo.
