Vista boot issues

Strange one this as I have tried many things and still come up with the same issue.

When booting up to Vista on a clients laptop, it boots as normal until just when you are about to get to the logon screen its black and all that is on there is a mouse pointer which you can move around but nothing else happens. I scanned the drive for virus and spyware as you do with different tools, I even scanned the HDD to make sure it was fine and even did a memory test. Nothing seem to work, I downloaded the vista recovery CD and tried booting from that, it did a scan of the operating system in system repair but said it found no errors?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Tried booting in debugging mode after you press F8? Or enabling the low-resolution video? (I got this from Windows 7, haven't worked much on Vista, it's maybe the same). Or try booting into safe mode see if it does the same thing.
You could have issues with your graphics card drivers. Just a thought.

It appears to be doing the same thing in safe mode, I shall try debugging mode later when I get back home. I read online that it may be a driver conflict, known issues are Roxio and Magicdisk I shall check to see if it is installed

This is a known issue with Vista. Since you can access safe mode there is hope of a solution.

You need to do a sytem restore from the command line. Do not do it from the Vista recovery DVD this will wipe the SR cache.

I had a harder one of these recently where I could not access safe mode. In that case the only known solution anyone has found has been to save the data and reinstall. I had to do this.

We have talked about this before.

I have decided the best thing to do is to backup and install the oem vista again. The client is happy to do this.

I have another Vista computer where I upgraded the MB and Ram and now it blue screens on boot, I know its a driver issue, but doing a repair did nothing, its vista again, its annoying that I have to keep backing up data then doing an reinstall. Vista is annoying to say the least
