I upgraded a Vista installation to XP. I reformatted that HD and installed Windows XP SP3.
The major problem I have with this laptop (HP Pavilion dv6810us) is the drivers won't work. This laptop comes with Ethernet ports, built in wireless card and the quick play buttons that control the volume, DVD's, etc.
None of them work and in the Device Manager the following shows with Yellow Exclamation points next to them.
Under IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers:
OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Under Other Devices:
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
Ethernet Controller
Ethernet Controller
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device
I went to HP and found the driver page for the model number but most drivers are for Vista and under the XP section for the same model there are drivers and some worked while other drivers are missing.
MAIN PROBLEM I CAN'T GET PAST!
I installed the chip set drivers (NVIDIA nForce 560) and it lists the Ethernet Controller, SM Bus and Network Management Tools (I hope this will help fix the wireless card inside) but after installing it, after restart, the Device Manager still lists the same drivers listed above with the Yellow Exclamation Marks. I even tried specifying a location and finding the NVIDIA installation folders for the recent chip set drivers I installed and finding the specific folders (Ethernet, SM Bus, etc.) but even that gets me a "Cannot Install Hardware" error in the "Found New Hardware Wizard"
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent most of the last 2 days trying to fix this and I can't take it anymore.
