Hey guys and gals I have a All in One on the bench that I just cant figure out! I mean there are just so many reason why a computer wont turn on, right!?

So first off here it is so you have a visual:

This thing is basically a laptop. Display on the top, base holds the Motherboard, and the speaker box holds the power supply. Typical desktop power supply cable feeds to the speaker and a proprietary dual jack Audio/Power cable connects from the speaker to the Mobo.

When plugged in the Led on the base/MOBO turns on automatically and the fan on the mobo spins up also. The upper right hand corner shows "PC" for a split second indicating input, then switches to "PC OFF" and shortly after goes black. The power led and system fan continue to spin.
Troubleshooting steps tried so far:
  • Fan on Mobo spins up
  • Led on power buttton lights up and stays on, powers of by holding button down
  • Display has power and shows "PC" for a split second (showing input source) then switches to "PC Off"
  • PC has SSD
1. First guess was the diplay was bad. Tried to use HDMI ports on MOBO to eliminated display issue -Still no display.
2. Tried known working Ram - Same issue
3. Replaced MOBO - No change same issue

My remaining ideas are:

1. CPU damage?
2. Power Supply supplying some power but not enough? (Fans are spinning, led on)
3. Damaged power/Audio cable coming from power supply to Mobo?

My next move was to try a power supply since my cost is very low on it, but I'm just getting that "I'm not sure this is the right way to go feeling". All remaining options sound possible but not likely, any ideas are appreciated. This is a new business client who I'd really like to impress, and something this simple shouldn't and typically isn't a problem. Ugh bad timing.

Than you in advance for the help

Jesse

Seems like it's not outputting video, which typically gives that symptom of the monitor seeing the input for just a second and then going to sleep again.

If you've already replaced the mb with a KNOWN GOOD board (ie not one off eBay which could have been "reworked" for the same failure by scumbag sellers on there) then I'd say next most likely culprit is the psu, followed by the lcd cable.

The MB was not purchased off Ebay, and I'm fairly certain it was a legit piece of hardware, but it I guess it can still happen. What has me holding back on the PSU is the fact that the 12v (ie the system fan) spins up. To me that means the power supply should be working, but maybe a diffrent voltage is not being outputted correctly?

Also I would think trying the additional HDMI outputs directly on the MB would all but eliminate a LCD or LCD cable failure. No?

Yeah, failing PSUs can definitely power fans without properly powering the motherboard. Its a common issue in regular desktops as well. Missed the part about the HDMI test so yeah, not likely to be the cable. Though I've never liked the external monitor test, because certain computers sometimes seem to be unwilling to display on a external monitor until after windows loads.

Mark's thought is good too, it could be RAM. But does the motherboard have a BIOS speaker on it? Usually if the board is working and you take the ram out, it will give you a beep error code. If the board isn't working right, then you wouldn't get any beeps.

I didn't get any noises from the Motherboard with the RAM out at all. Ugh. This is really burning some time now. I guess I'll just give the PSU a go and if I don't have any luck I'll have to just move on.

Thanks for the insight.

Oh man, I had one of those on my bench a couple of years ago. Never saw another one after that, but I remember it for it's low build quality - haha. I'll bet parts are hard to find, they couldn't have sold many.

Haha yeah not easy at all. Apparently this was the first PC they made also. Looks nice but quality is severly lacking. Hopefully I'll have some luck with the PS, but if not I'm cutting my losses on this POS!

I would swap back the original mobo as well and try with the new PSU.

Did it come from a legitimate source? If not it could be S/H and damaged as well.

First thing I did was go back to the original MOBO after I tried it with no luck. I have never used the vendor before, but I did call and speak with them and all sounded legitimate, but like I said it could have very well been a bad. PS should be here tomorrow, I'll update the post then if anyones interetsted, but I'm not feeling to confident this will do the job unfortunately.

Just an update, this is still unresolved. New PSU didn't do it, and I even tried a LCD cable since it was cheap. No luck. I must have gotten a bad MB, I just don't know what else it could be. I have to cut my losses at this point. Its absolutly killing me, first time I have NOT fixed or figured out the problem. It feels yucky. haha
