Well, that's a different looking case...

Got this in the other day as a "box of parts" job - you know, the home builds that folks attempt and fail, then give in and just ask you to make it work.

What in the Rube Goldberg hell is this inside-out case design, and why would someone want it? I don't even want to know what it costs - haha.

Great for techs to test components and have quick access.

Which pretty much means, "no, no, absolutely not," for use as an appropriate case for any other purpose.

Having all "the guts" out in the open is a recipe for disaster in virtually any home or office environment. (Also, I've seen cars with cooling systems less robust than that one - water cooling is just not necessary, and no one will ever convince me otherwise for any "typical use" computer).

I have seen one of these before. It was in a home setting where they used it as a gaming PC.
I think they bought it S/H? (not sure) but they were impressed with the design of it and thought it looked cool.
I worked on it a couple of times (Windows issues, never hardware) and afaik they still have it.

And yes, as Aaron stated "not great for EMF shielding" it made their TV (in the same room) go weird while both were on.

It's a test-bench or GPU mining rig case.
Maybe, but seems a poor one of either, if you ask me. You wouldn't use water cooling on a test bench rig, and mining cases would support way more PCI slots. I would think. Who knows. Definitely one of those "glad it's not in my house" choices - haha.

It reminds me of early LAN PC style builds that you could technically take to a friend's place for a LAN party. How times have advanced.

Personally I would only use these as test benches as I do. It should not be used as a permanent system, I guess the owner has not cats or or other pets as that hose would be tapped out or chewed on.
Very much my view too, that's why I went with the case I listed instead. I saw many options that look like the OPs... and I opted for this one because I can tear down into bench mode when I need to... but it spends its life all sealed up in protective metal and glass.

There are 3 boys in this house, and the nerf wars alone are beyond what this open mess can survive. I simply cannot fathom risking that much money like that!

Not just dangerous to the computer itself but could be dangerous to humans and pets. I remember getting a fairly ugly cut on my finger from a CPU fan spinning at a really high speed when I was using an air compressor to blow the dust out.

I love these. The person is so frustrated and so DONE they're willing to pay almost anything to dump the problem onto someone else and just get a working computer in return. They've also just spent a boatload of money on parts so it's a sunk cost fallacy sort of thing. Yeah they may not WANT to spend $500 to get the computer working, but they just dropped $2,000 in parts and spent DAYS screwing with it themselves, so at that point $500 seems like a bargain in order to finally be done with this problem.
