Will not wake from Sleep mode Help!!

I have a clients computer here and it is having problems when I try to wake it from sleep ( the screen will come on you can move the mouse freely and you can click on the start menu, icons, etc. but nothing will open, you can try to bring up TM but still nothing will show up, the HD indicator light blinks at a steady rate and you have to do a cold shutdown and it will come back up as a resume windows session ( which it will work from that point or you can delete resume point and do a fresh restart and it works fine untill it goes back into sleepmode.



any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks eric76. I wish they were all that easy. Usually most bad drives I see I are pretty much long gone by the time a SMART failure is flagged. I'm surprised that machine is still booting. OP better think about seeing how important the clients data is.
 
Yeah, I skipped the post and jumped right to the replies to leach ideas to support. lol

Did the SMART fail in CrystalDisk? I always run that as part of my basic troubleshooting. Actually I run it on every machine I touch, usually one of the first things.

Still, from what you've described symptom wise, I'd still back up/image the clients drive and download an actual Seagate drive diagnostic and do more testing to be sure. All (speccy or what ever you used) is doing is pulling SMART attribute data from the drive itself, and maybe its not consistently flagging failures, but there still looks to be an issue. Maybe that's why its still booting while having a SMART failure.

Other than that what else have you done to make sure it is not the drive? Don't see much else posted..
 
I ran the seagate diagnostics and there was a failure , I cloned the drive and put in a new drive everything is working perfect

I've always considered it a good rule of thumb to, whenever possible, run the diagnostics of the manufacturer. If Seagate is willing to admit that their drive is bad, they're probably right.

Try run the chkdsk C: /r/v command at DOS.
