Windows 10 Gaming Mode?

I'm calling it right now, it's something insignificant.

What? Getting rid of their Office (and other BS) pop-ups from within Windows is insignificant? I disagree and I don't think they'll go through with it unless it's on a timer or something else obnoxious.....

Even though I am NOT a fan of ANY M$ Operating Systems (O/S), I'd say that this would be a good thing for them to consider. If there would be less overhead for the gaming systems / simulation systems then I am fairly sure that most developers would be more than happy to see this type of release. Especially those who run the higher-end flight sims.

I'd almost be willing to go back to a M$ O/S just for gaming / simulation. It sure would be nice if M$ would listen to the general public's wishes for future releases.

"expected to introduce a variety of features that at least six people will care about"

Yup, they called that right, only about 6 people will care about it, the rest of us will go on about our merry way, unless, of course, Micro$oft breaks something. And being its Micro$oft, chances are good it'll break.

??? - Are you really that uninformed?

1.2 billion people game worldwide. 155 million are regular gamers in the US with 60+% being on the PC. Many people spend more on gaming than movies. Sales revenue of a single game can far exceed any movie. ...and you don't think people will notice a gaming mode? It appears you are oblivious to the gaming community.

By definition - "Gaming Mode" would eliminate pop-ups. That IS what Gaming Mode does.

That is what gaming mode on an AV does, I can't imagine microsoft making any efforts in filtering their popups for the sake of gaming. How many times does a gamer really lose window focus to a microsoft popup? perhaps the outlook authentication dialog but thats about the only one that comes to mind. I suppose they might be implementing a standard for future software development to check if a "gaming mode" is enabled in windows to avoid popups but i dunno seems a bit unlikely to me. My first thoughts were some small feature like for xbox live or hololens or something to that nature.

Edit: or perhaps even something as simple as disabling the left windows key on the keyboard

As I mentioned, it appears you are not at all familiar with the gaming community, especially the Hard-core gamers that drive the industry. "Gaming Mode" is discussed among gaming enthusiasts all the time. It's not just an AV thing. Many gamers work to implement their own version of "Gaming Mode" on their systems to be sure there are no Skype, Chat, AV, Windows Updates, etc. interruptions when they are gaming. I'm sure a few other gamers will chime in. I don't game much anymore......

"Gaming Mode" is not a popular topic amongst gamers, I am a hard core gamer...well i mean as hardcore as you can get with a full time job these days =P. I still put in at least 40 hours a week gaming.

I've been gaming on my PC for decades, literally since I built my first PC when I was 12 in '98. I think one time my game was closed due to a pop up from Avast! years ago.

If pop-up disabling is what they mean by "gaming mode" then I could not care less. If it even takes 1 second to "enable it" it will be more work than its worth to me.

Plus its probably going to come with a bunch of malicious features added in to try and make MS a bigger competitor on PC Gaming. Remember all the promises MS made years and years ago about how they were going to make a huge push to advance PC gaming... and what we got was Games for Windows Live? MS has made many promises to help gaming, and every time they've done something it made things worse.

Frankly, I'd be more excited about a press release from MS saying that they're dropping all efforts to improve gaming on Windows. Then we can finally have a better gaming experience. Just stop Microsoft. Just... stop.
