Windows install crashes at copying Windows files

So I have an HP 2000 with a corrupt windows installation.
I could not even do a system restore on this thing.
I ran the extended manufacturer diagnostics and it all checks out.

Secure boot has been disabled and legacy boot is enabled.
I've tried installing installing via DVD and USB but I get a crash at the exact same place.

Every time the installation starts it crashing at "copying windows system files 0%"

I've Also tested the HDD health with Parted Magic just to make sure the drive is good.
I've pulled the drive and deleted the partitions in my toaster and retype with the same issue.

Any advice?

What does Linux do?
Did you try other versions of Windoze?
Did you reseat RAM?
Did you try another HD?
Are you using the HP recovery media for that model?
What is the HP part number off of the label on the bottom?

Define crash. Are we talking a BSOD, a reboot loop, or does it lose power completely? I'd definitely suspect RAM. Swap it out. If that's not an option, take one stick out and try it with just one stick in. Then try it with the other. It's either that or the HDD. I've had this happen one time and the GPU was to blame, but that's rare. My steps would be this:

1. Swap out RAM
2. Swap out HDD
3. Change install media
4. Reset BIOS settings to default

Is your Windows media source merely a partition on the same drive? That media itself might be corrupt....?

I know, I thought it was the hard drive from the start but all the diagnostics I've run said that the HDD checks out.

Linux Mint installed flawlessly so that gives me some relief. I'm at my inlaws right now, I brought the laptop with me with a few tools for a project.
So I'm done messing with this until I get back this evening.

Nline, I've already ran diagnostics from The manufacturer aswell as through Parted Magic boot disk, everything checks out.

New Ram makes no difference.

I'm thinking its the install media, even though it came from MS, but I will also test a new HDD just to confirm

I was going to grab the manual but, unfortunately, I've lost access to the retail stuff with their new business model.

HD would also have been at the top of the list but if you could install a *nix then it might be something else. Did you have a chance to try another version of Windoze, say W10?

What version of BIOS does it have?

Hard drive cable? Maybe running MHDD would determine that. (I think it is on Parted Magic, but you have to choose extra tools instead of booting to linux) I've always found that linux is more likely to be able to install even if there are hardware issues.

Could very well be.

I got the same thing when attempting to install Windows 10, only this time I also received an error code of NMI_HARDWARE_FAILURE
but I only get that with a Windows 10 install oddly enough.

4. If I had an extra HDD cable it would be an easy swap.

If the cable causes it troubles reading or writing sectors, you should be able to see it in MHDD (I imagine it the cable could cause problems that would not show up though). Silly windows computers, on a Mac you would just pull the drive and connect it to USB and see if it works that way
