Worth it? PC Repair Tracker & Quickbooks Integration

Hey TN, I was thinking about integrating PC Repair Tracker and Quickbooks. I only use the basics of both, but I would like to have consistent data (customers, sales, etc). I have sales, accounting and techs all touching different parts of both systems, and typos and improper tracking happens all the time...

Has anyone tackled this? Would you find value in this?

Oh now, don't get me started

I did my research and purchased quick books for this very purpose, with the view to integrating it with PCRT.

PCRT does not have native integration, but a third party has produced an addon which is suppose to do this.

My issue was downloading and integrating content from my bank. Santander.

There is a specific download format which is suppose to make this work, which santander no longer supports. In fact, in the UK, only one bank (Barclays) supports it.

This made the entire project worthless for me.

I am in the middle of converting from PCRT to MHelpdesk and integrating it with Quickbooks 2015.
Will let you know how it goes.

I purchased Quickbooks 2014 Desktop edition with a view of integrating it with PCRT, and the ability to download / sync my bank account.

Erm. Nope.

The only UK banks that work directly with QB are Barclays and HSBC.

That's it.

A special file format is/was used which integrated the bank and QB.

If you have another bank, you are scuppered, and I consider it a waste of £120. [emoji35]

Yes, I did my research before hand, and I believe the subscriber on-line web version may (may) support other banks. I thought the desktop version had the same capability.

Nah.

Santander (my bank) was compatible, but Santander has recently withdrawn their support.

Looks like I'll keep with my excel spreadsheet. [emoji2]

I use PCRT simply for jobs. Any accounting I use quickfile. It's free and UK based. Syncs with most major banks (barclays is auto sync, the rest you click a button and it brings it in)...works with santander for sure

I've struggled with my accounts for a ridiculously long time and run up ridiculously insane charges.

I've given Quickfile a try and I've fallen for it.
I've still to get the Santander Integration sorted out,but that looks promising.

The Paypal integration is an added bonus. As is the iPhone app for scanning till receipts and sending them directly into the database.

OK, I'm a little nervous about using the Chrome plugin, but frankly, my accounts are in such a mess, its worth the risk.

I'd be interested in how you use it with PCRT (like me).

I basically ignore the Invoice report generation.
How you manage multiple receipts banked at the same time?
I put the individual details into the Notes dropdown, and use a generic "Customer" name for tagging them. This is a brand new set-up, so I'm still finding my feet.



I especially liked the help file "Sole Trader Bookkeeping - The Basics".

Also gocardless integration makes monthly billing effortless as well as setting up DD for one off payments. Invoices look slick and allowing clients to log in to view their invoices as well as pay online looks professional and makes paying me even easier no excuses.

Does what we need, is free and almost makes accounting "fun". They seem on the ball fixing stuff - the way they make their money is you can apply for end of year taxes at the click of a button and one of their affiliated accountants gets the job.

We just export results to our old school accountant - whom can receive a login too. Man...imagine PCRT integration. Anyone on here wanna look at the API and see if it can be done. That kinda stuff is above me

I've been looking briefly at Quickfile and it looks the business. Integration with PCRT would be brilliant. It really does have everything a sole trader needs except the hands on work that PCRT does. Integration with Dropbox, Paypal and Google Calendar is ace.

I use PCRT purely for invoicing and customer tracking, I use a good old fashioned spreadsheet for everything else. Working well for the past 9 years but I am thinking of getting some pretty accounting software to help with the capital allowance side of things.

I guess it's whatever works for the individual. I've struggled with spreadsheets for far too long.

This system appears to fit the bill (pun intended) and all the data is backed up every 15 mins and is exportable to multiple formats.

And it's free to use. And even I can understand (most) of it.

The trick is integrating the System with PCRT. I don't want to lose PCRT invoices or reveipts. It's just a case of sitting down and working out a system with uses, but doesn't duplicate, work and info.

There is a fair bit of "overlap", so I'll ignore the invoicing aspects of QuickFile.

The rest of it though, is going to save me skip loads.

I just bought the Power User subscription, basically to to check it out.

I know, I know, more money than sense (yeah right!).

I don't know if I will use any of the additional features but this is such a weight off my mind that they deserve the £42.

I'm not the brightest lightbulb, but I think I can find my way around it ok.

Integration with PCRT would really make this a Killer-Combo.
