Wrong CMOS Settings, even when battery is replaced

hi there,

can you help me on this guys.
I need to know about wrong CMOS settings, which happen everytime I turn on the PC.

I have changed the CMOS battery already, and its fine cause I have checked it with the multimeter, but if the PC is turned on the next 2 hours it will display wrong CMOS settings again and to Press F2 to enter BIOS Setup.

The system is a Pentium 4, socket 478, on an Asrock P4i65G motherboard.

Oh and btw, this PC turns on exactly as I turn on the PSU power switch [right after turning on the mains AC socket] and not from the power button.

Thanks.

I would reset the bios using the jumper and force it to a known state. Then choose default / optimized if applicable and check the power fail state options on/off/resume. also some mobos do a power up with fans etc after power first appleid then go doemant or it could be the switch:p
my 2p

I would flash the BIOS with the newest firmware. I had a couple of computers that gave that message until I flashed the BIOS with the latest release.

Thanks for your replies, DanF + citizensmith

I will update you when I try your suggestions,

@ DanF. youre a Malteaser just like me!

Regarding Power button/reset button/HD LED button, etc are completely disconnected now, but still PC turns on upon switching the PSU on/off switch!

Already cleared CMOS by using a jumper on the motherboard as illustrated in its manual, by placing a jumper to short the 2 pins for about 2 seconds. Result still the same, CMOS settings are wrong.

Now I will update the BIOS and hopefully resolve this issue! Its BIOS is version 1.30 and will be 1.40.

Thanks again.

Faulty PSU. Test and replace. Mostly has a failure in the Power ON Signal. If new PSU has same symptoms the the mobo is bad. Either could explain your clearing CMOS issues. Mobo shorting to the chassis could also cause both issues. Might be worth a test of the motherboard outside of the chassis.

PSU swapped, but still PC turns on as I press the on/off PSU`s power switch!

Will try to remove the motherboard now in order to check if there is a short somewhere!

If you have not found the problem yet, check to see what "state" the setting of the PS2_USB_PWR1 jumper is set to. On the mainboard layout picture it is marked as #1.

I have, in the past, found that on 'some mainboards' that there will be a jumper to allow for auto-on and/or keyboard on/off operation. But I doubt that this is the case.

I would definitely remove the mainboard and set it on a cardboard sheet (or the box it came in) and power it up. Make sure to have the keyboard, monitor, power supply and memory installed before you connect your AC to it.

May the force be with you.

I have tried the motherboard out of its case, using its PSU and another one to make sure, yet it still powers on by itself after switching on the PSU on/off switch.

Can I conclude its a faulty motherboard now?

@ Altster
I have checked the jumper state as well and it's on pg15 of the manual pdf in the link below.

Have you checked the power management settings in BIOS such as "AC Power Loss Restart" or "Power on after a power failure"?

Have you checked the motherboard for any visible damage, like swelled caps or burned chips?

I have flashed and updated the BIOS, loaded default settings, so it was supposed to override previous power management settings right?

Yes, no physical damage on caps etc as I have inspected the motherboard as well.

Could the default settings in this BIOS be to power on after power failure?

I thought this sounded familiar, is this the same computer that you posted about 2 months ago?

I think I have a soon-to-be-dead motherboard [I guess]. It's an Asrock P4i65g with Pentium 4 processor, 2 sticks of 1GB RAM with integrated video.

This mobo is turning on when I switch on the I/O button of its PSU, but won't display POST.
