I have an Acer laptop in the shop -

Acer Aspire 5517-5997 - Win 8.1 x64. 4 GB RAM.

An older model for sure, but runs surprising well with an SSD drive. The issue is that the volume output is extremely low. Ran SDI & brought all drivers up to date. Tweaked several audio settings, i.e., loudness equalization, which is supposed to remedy this situation.

Still has low output; when set to max volume, it sounds like 25% compared to most other pc's. I've never seen one with this low of an audio output. Any ideas?

Also, not all sound systems are created equal. I've seen more than a few laptops barely muster a power level that can get over a background conversation, much less something actually loud like engine noise.

I'm sure you checked it but doesn't this unit have a physical volume control. A lot of times we forget about that and panic.
This ^^ just recently had a client complain about this very thing! There is a physical key on the keyboard to adjust volume level - which was turned way down - so turning the volume up in audio properties did very little.

We had this recently with a brand new Toshiba laptop. We rung Toshiba support and were told it was missing their software. Once we installed the software from their website (Sorry can't remember exact name of app) the volume went up at least 50%.
We always install clean Windows 10 on new laptops we sell as we hate all the bundled rubbish. We had run Driver update but it wasn't a driver but additional software that somehow enhanced the volume.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. As it turns out, this repair started going further & further south; Every time the laptop is moved, it stops charging, and now & then it loses wifi. For an 8 yr. old laptop, it's not worth fooling with any longer. Out the door it goes, most likely to the trash bin.
