Am I about to overpay for phone service?

I'm just starting out and I signed up for a trial of Ringcentral. They advertised the premium package for 34.99 per user, but with only 1 user it's 44.99, but then I want to pay monthly so it's 54.99. After taxes and fees it comes out to 73 and change a moth. Seems pretty high when I'm mostly having calls come to my cell and sometimes the desktop app. I really like the ability to use the API and the caller ID which is why I chose the premium plan, but I'm not yet using a lot of the features it has available. Am I about to seriously overpay for phone service or is my price about right? If I call them do you think they can work with me on a custom plan that is a little less expensive? Thanks for any advise. Need some tips before I go buying a bunch of advertising with this phone number.

Free, but it is not a RingCentral replacement. It is great for one man bands.
So I guess my only concern is can I take my number with me if I ever want to move it elsewhere? I plan to be more than a 1 man band in the future. Changing my phone number I would imagine wouldn't be good for business. Just thought of this though, if I go with Google voice and decide to get ringcentral in the future, can I just forward my Google voice to ring central without much issue?

Did a little research, so for anyone looking at this in the future, yes you can port your Google Voice to Ringcentral and other providers. So I will probably be canceling Ringcentral over the next couple days and using google voice. I'll miss some of the ringcentral features but to go from free to $74 for a few features just isn't worth it right now. Thank you Porthos for pointing me in the right direction.

Google Voice here. Since GV allows you to ring or forward to as many different places as you want (simultaneously BTW), I even threw in a Magic Jack ($20/yr) at the house so I can ring my work line there. (No cell service in house or shop.)

Oh cool! GV has added a "Mark as Spam" feature instead of just "Block". It not only blocks but adds the number to its database just like email. Enough others complain (Mark as Spam) then GV will block all calls from that number to its GV customers.

I was on Google voice for years but a few months ago it stopped working. There is NO ONE you can call at google to resolve it. It suddenly started working but I was already moving the phone. I ported it over to http://phone.com and got a SIP handset phone. Free is great but not if your business depends on it.

I was just thinking that a phone for the small operator like me is somewhat superfluous. I can change the phone number on the website and ads in an instant. (That's where most go anyway for my phone number.) Between email, text and web the phone just isn't that vital to me anymore. Still, not saying I want to change business phone numbers yearly.......

I have 10 years worth of business cards with that number on it. No way would I not port.

Porting is obviously preferable but I was assuming you couldn't get anything from Google. You are the first person I have encountered that has had an issue with GV availability. I researched galore before I committed and was incredibly hard-pressed at the time to find negative reviews or experiences. The instant versatility (ringing 3 phones at once or successively?) it gives far outweighs any other options I could find.

For the most part, I agree. I never had any real trouble in almost 10 years. But down costs me, clients. I had a client email me furious that I didn't return her phone calls. That is when I found out it was down. It was taking voicemail but I had no notification that it was. I just had to keep logging into the gv website to see if I had any calls. Can't run a business that way.

Wow, that's a pretty powerful feature. Good idea with the Magic Jack. I'm sold.

I use Google Voice as well and love it. Integrates perfectly for me since I had it with my G Suite account.
I'm planning on subscribing to G-suite when my domain is finished transfering. Didn't know it integrated with anything. I'll have to look into that but another +1 to voice.

That is a little concerning. I'm under the impression however, that as a G-suite customer I will have access to 24/7 phone and live chat support. I'm pretty sure that applies to voice as well unless anyone knows something I don't.

I had phone.com for a couple of months when I tried starting a business before. I didn't have a problem with them personally but read about a lot of people having reliability issues, while most of what I've heard about GV has been positive.

I'm not liking phone.com either and will probably move on to something else. I had to find something quick and it was cheap.
