Best Cartoon

Hong Kong Phooey, Captain Caveman

Loved those two as a kid, especially Hong Kong Phooey .... number one super guy.

He was quicker than the human eye, you know.

And "a car that just won't stop", apparently.

I had a car like that in the 80s too. Drum brakes.

Anybody remember Jonny Quest?

Many of the toons mentioned above are still being shown on some of the satellite networks on the cartoon channels, such as Boom and Toon. Saw a Pepe LePew and a Foghorn Leghorn toon the other day -- so predictable, but still funny!

Count Duckula
How could I forget that one!

Count Duckula was brilliant. And of course there was Cosgrove Hall's most famous cartoon, Danger Mouse.

Danger Mouse, incidentally, is one of my few claims to fame. My Dad's cousin was one of the animators and I have a few pencil sketches of the characters that he drew for me when I was a kid.

For fans of the sick and twisted with absolutely no redeeming social values check out Mr. Pickles on Adult Swim. Your welcome.

I watched the first few episodes of that, but I haven't quite gotten into it yet. Need to watch a few more episodes I think

But you reminded me of a similar cartoon that I do like to watch, Brickleberry.

Top five for me,

Futurama
Hey Arnold
The Simpsons
South Park
Rick and Morty

I never really got into the classics, I guess as a kid I didn't care much for cartoons. I only started watching any when I got into college haha. Hey Arnold is the only one I'd turn on as a kid, and I'd watch Sunday night Simpsons with my dad a lot, but I watched a lot more Simpsons when I got into college.

The list of cartoons that I watched as a kid

Notes

  • I have a brother and our preferences didn't always match and sometimes our favorite shows aired on different networks at the same time, so we had to take turns in choosing what to watch on each occasion.
  • I also watched a cartoon but I can’t remember its title and search in Google doesn’t yield any results. I’ll try to badly describe it and hopefully someone will figure out what it is. It’s about a war that takes place in space. The combatants are spending most of time in spaceships and are using exoskeletons(similar to Ripley's exoskeleton from Aliens) when they fly outside. These exoskeletons are loaded with guns and jet powered. The leader of the good guy has a nickname “marshall”, “colonel” or something like that. The bad guys have blue skin. I know it sounds racist but I don’t even remember why they’re at war in the first place. I pretty sure that it’s a western cartoon, not anime. It would weird if I ask my brother because it would be out of the blue. Besides, he knows that I never liked that show.
  • If a cartoon isn’t on the list that means that either I never seen it or I don’t remember watching it.

The list of cartoons that I watched as an adult

Notes

  • I went back to cartoons when I needed to practice my English listening skills and as part of my training routine I re-watched the cartoons that used to watch in my childhood and, much to my surprise, I found many of them to be holding up rather well.
  • I also watched episodes from other cartoons(both old and current) to get basic familiarity with characters and settings. You should bear in mind that I haven't seen many episodes of these cartoons for the most part, and hence I can't fairly judge them.
  • The (*) mark means that I either binge-viewed that cartoon or seen many episodes in no particular order.
  • If a cartoon isn’t on the list that means that either I never seen it or I don’t remember watching it.
