Blank Check in Computer Bag

yeah, it's none of your business what is in the bag. It would be an entirely different situation if it was a blank signed check...

Why?

OP: It's none of your business that the check is there. I wouldn't mention it at all. There are many scenarios as to how and why the check is there. I wouldn't worry about it unless he pulls it out to pay you with it.

Note it on the workorder, make sure it's there when you return the bag and laptop.

The Lady in question could be his elderly mother. My mom carried blank checks for my grandmother(dad's mom) checking account during the last couple years of her life. because my mom would do her grocery shopping and pay her bills (lights, water, etc) when she went to pay ours.

Just point out that you found a blank check in their bag while getting whatever out. Leave the conversation at that.

No need to play TV detective.

That is the real solution. You only want the customer to leave the stuff you need to do the work. We all know they will forget things sometimes, need to come back to get it, etc, etc. When I was at CompUSA that was our policy. We told customers that we had to lockup laptops and did not have room for the bags. Which was true.

I agree, and this can lead to them thinking things were in the bag and 'you took it'. I once had a local sign shop leave a usb stick in their pc they brought in for us to fix. The USB stick cost like $999 because it contained a license for some stupid software. Luckily I eventually found it but now my checkin form says 'remove all extras/usb mice/CDs/memory cards, not responsible for devices left in unit. I also don't take cases/covers off for customers or put them back on. You'll never guess how many times theyre taking a case off an iPad or iPhone that has damage and when they're taking it off they drop it or it gets worse like the lcd is now broke. The other popular thing is to put cases on macbooks, have them remove it, you'll thank me later when they crack their lcd because it's warped and wont come off.

Here's the deal on the check, it could be from his mother in law or other family member, it's none of your business. Put it back in there and in the future dont take bags or trinkets. I swear it will save you, I lost a small harddrive bag for a customer one day (literally could buy it on ebay for $5 (the EXACT SAME BAG) and she flipped the !$*(!$ out and threw a hissy fit. No, it didn't have anything important (or sentimental value) in it she just wanted 'her' bag back even when I offered to buy a new one.

Agreed 100%. In fact, on all of our work orders, we specifically mention certain things we DIDN'T take lol. Each work order has a short description of the condition of the device, and "NO AC/CABLES/CASE/ETC INCLUDED." Obviously if we take the AC adapter then we remove that bit, but we refuse to take anything else. Our work orders also have a disclaimer saying anything that's not listed on the work order... we're not liable for.

Put it back, forget you saw it.

I once went in a bag to get a charger out, pulled out a vibrator instead... (Bertie's ideal customer!) i just put it back, washed my hands, and forgot all about it.

You didn't have it tested to make sure it was in working order?
