yeah, it's none of your business what is in the bag. It would be an entirely different situation if it was a blank signed check...

That is the real solution. You only want the customer to leave the stuff you need to do the work. We all know they will forget things sometimes, need to come back to get it, etc, etc. When I was at CompUSA that was our policy. We told customers that we had to lockup laptops and did not have room for the bags. Which was true.
I agree, and this can lead to them thinking things were in the bag and 'you took it'. I once had a local sign shop leave a usb stick in their pc they brought in for us to fix. The USB stick cost like $999 because it contained a license for some stupid software. Luckily I eventually found it but now my checkin form says 'remove all extras/usb mice/CDs/memory cards, not responsible for devices left in unit. I also don't take cases/covers off for customers or put them back on. You'll never guess how many times theyre taking a case off an iPad or iPhone that has damage and when they're taking it off they drop it or it gets worse like the lcd is now broke. The other popular thing is to put cases on macbooks, have them remove it, you'll thank me later when they crack their lcd because it's warped and wont come off.
Put it back, forget you saw it.
I once went in a bag to get a charger out, pulled out a vibrator instead... (Bertie's ideal customer!) i just put it back, washed my hands, and forgot all about it.

Yeah, I would not do anything actually, not even say anything to him.
You didn't have it tested to make sure it was in working order?
