Can't add IMAP

Also, I had a client last week that the security was missing, so it was "special" lol

Please go to your admin console > Security > 2-Step Verification > enable this option "Allow users to turn on 2-Step Verification" Google Workspace Support
Valid point. Is this for Google WORKSPACE? The paid for version of Gmail? If so the administrator can disable 2FA per user account.

Google makes me so much money, I can't hate it.

As someone else said, {Insert company here} for Google.

But in any case, I can still hate 'em even if what they do has the indirect result of making me money. Stupidity, which seems to be far too common in corporate decision making, chafes me no matter what.

Thank you all, now it works, wish that there was a way to delete my posts. Doesn't make me look very good. :)
As others pointed out don't do that. Besides, we still have your original problem. Google shouldn't force you to use an App Password though often it does for reasons beyond understanding. It should work like your other 5 accounts.

While I agree, I am grateful that a very convenient workaround exists (or second option exists, depending on your viewpoint). Who knows what odd, possibly completely idiosyncratic, bug/issue is at work. That "Plan B" when it occurs is really handy.

Google and Microsoft are at war, anything they can do to eff each other over works. Mac is Switzerland. This is how I explain it to my clients when they want their Google calendar on their free Gmail account in Outlook Desktop to sync with their iPhone 😂
