So, my family has a home computer, and as such, it has problems all the time. My little brother was logging on one day and, as a curious ten-year-old, hit F2 to see what happened. He somehow set a password for the BIOS so we couldn't log into the darned thing. After a little bit of poking around, I found the PSWD breaker thing, removed it, got into BIOS options and saved no password. All that is well and good, so I turned it off and back on again after replacing the PSWD breaker thing, and everything started up fine, but during the windows 7 loading animation, the four color dots, they stop in the middle of the animation, and it brings me to the screen where you either select (Launch Windows Bootup Repair) or (Launch Windows Normally) and being the great techie that I am, tried Windows Normally again, but that didn't work so I turned it off and back on, did the same startup, freeze in animation, and bring me to the two option menu. I tried Startup Repair and it found that it couldn't fix the problem, so I tried advanced options, and they haven't found anything yet. Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and nothing was found to be wrong. Also, Factory Reset is the last option I want to try.

I would be pulling the drive and testing it. I recommend gsmartcontrol. There are Windows and Linux versions.
Testing it on what? Another computer? Bringing it to a professional? Would booting to my Linux removable disk and perusing for problems that way be a terrible idea?
