computer continues to restart after reapplying thermal grease

So I have this computer the specs are..

i7-920 cpu

2 ATI 5850 gpus

x58-UD5 MOBO

3 2GB xms3 DDR3 sticks of RAM

corsair TX750w PSU

I just got finished rewiring it a couple days ago to get a better airflow in the case. It was running fine for a little bit then it started to freeze and the MOBO had a cpu heat warning light come on at that time. So i thought i messed up on applying the thermal grease I reapply the thermal grease and put the heatsink back on. I forgot to plug the cpu fan in though and the computer hung up on the MOBO logo screen. I quickly shut the computer down and plugged the cpu fan in now everytime i turn the computer on it only stays on for about 2 seconds then shuts down and restarts. It keeps repeating this process.. i have tried.. reapplying the grease and reseating the heat sink.. reseating the RAM.. Checking the cables to make sure everything is plugged in securely.. reseating the gpus.. I did get it to boot up after reseating the heatsink once but then i turned it off to put both sides of the case on and now it does the same thing.. and after taking the sides of the case off again it still does it.. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried unplugging the PS from the mobo, then plugging it back in? Seems like I have to do that when a pc shuts down from overheating.

2 seconds seems too short a time for a chip to get hot enough to shut down. Does that time bincrease if you allow the heatsink to cool completely? If not then I don't think it is due to overheating.

Some bioses have temp settings. You might check they haven't been set super low.

Will it allow a boot to a cd or usb stick?

If it's only staying on for a few seconds, it has nothing to do with thermal paste or heat. You need to test the PSU with a tester or try a known good PSU. You should also isolate the board to make sure it's not RAM or GPU or HDD or something else. Unplug everything, put in 1 stick of known good RAM and a cheap GPU. See if it will post. If it does and is stable, try booting from a live CD. These are pretty basic steps that you should have tried already. However, it sounds like you probably shorted out the board while you were "rewiring" it. One good static surge or the wrong pins shorted is all it takes to fry a board. You also may have bent one of the CPU pins when you reseated the CPU and heatsink. Even though they're on the board now instead of the CPU, they're still extremely fragile.

yea i was really afraid i shorted it out even though i wore anti static wrist protection.. and i was worried about bent pins. but i still find it funny that it was working fine after i rewired it then when i applied the paste again this started.. and then after messing with it a bit i got it to boot but when i turn it off to put the sides on it goes back to the same thing. oh and no i cant boot to cd or usb. It comes on with a black screen then shuts right off.

Not trying to be rude but I figured I would point this out.
Pretty much all of your posts are regarding YOUR computer and this isn't a personal help forum. Only one thread you participated in is regarding someone else's computer.

i know. Most of the people that i work on there computers i dont need help with. but since I am constantly messing with mine trying new things etc etc i always run into my own problems and most likely create some.

silly question but i am assuming you have checked that you havent dropped some thermal paste anywhere you shouldnt have and caused a short circuit.

It sounds like a short. What kind of rewiring did you do? Make sure none of the wiring has bare spots and touching metal. I would check the fan it may have shorted out and that may have been the reason for your CPU heat warning, were you wearing "anti static wrist protection" when you plugged the CPU fan back in? Are you sure you have all the motherboards power connectors plugged in? I would reseat every power connector. Check the motherboard for bad caps or any other physical damage. Also I would check the CPU.
