Convert domain account to local account and remove folder redirection.

Yes that's the Windows desktop Teams app, and I'm not sure what's going on... it's just there for me.

Maybe you have some policy set for your team? Any chance you can do a fresh install of teams on a different system and then maybe join your team so we can see when the button appears so I can find out why

The system I pulled the screen shot from isn't on a domain, it's only a member of the Azure domain provided by O365. So no GPOs here, no registry hacks to simulate them either.

@YeOldeStonecat

In one of your previous posts you mentioned that you are moving people to teams and then you were using OneDrive to backup the workstation, can you elaborate on that? Replacing DC's means losing the folder redirection GPO. Are you just syncing channel files via OneDrive and then logging into OneDrive personal and using the standard Desktop & Documents redirection to OneDrive personal?

Can you elaborate on that?

I appreciate you looking into that for me, maybe theres something on the backend that allows that then Azure & Sharepoint are in the same scenario?

I don't know anything about Azure. In fact I'm working on moving clients over to Right Networks for Quickbooks because of my need to get the data off prem and my complete lack of knowledge in how to use O365 to get a VM to run QB.

On an updated computer with the latest OneDrive installed....go to settings...and about a year or so ago MS added a 5th tab..it's in the middle...called "Backup". Click on that tab...and you'll see a "Manage Backup" button. Click on that, and you'll see a big window open prompting to snag the Docs, Desk, and Pics.

So now those folders are backed up.
Workstations blows up, catches fire, get a new one, set it up, go to office.com, sign in, sync OD..enable this feature..and BOOM..it's all back on the other computer.
My desktop, pics, and docs..are synced across all 3 computers of mine...my laptop, desktop at HQ, and desktop at home. It's nice! Plop a document or picture in one, and it's in all 3 computers.

When you "sync" those folders in OD...it changes their path....goes to an actual OneDrive path...it's no longer c:\%userprofile%documents...but it's c:\users\catman.domain\one-drive-business name\documents

Ah ... wow this looks great I see what you mean now ... I dont want to do this to my computer but does the backup tab allow you to add additional folders to it for backup? or is it just the standard desktop docs & pictures unless you manually put a file there?

@YeOldeStonecat

If you needed to move QB off prem how would you do it (Moving to QB online isn't an option).

@YeOldeStonecat

Also, is there a way to change how the OneDrive personal is displayed?

Currently I have two OneDrive folders:

1.) Is the Skyscraper for synced channel files
2.) Is the personal OneDrive where backup would be (Well not personal it's linked to the O365 account).

One is named OneDrive - Contoso Company
The other is named Contoso Company

This may get confusing to end users. Can the personal OneDrive be renamed so that it displays the name of the account instead of the name of the company? Like...

OneDrive - Jon Doe

What you have is normal..in your Explorer view....OneDrive is the blue cloud...and the other...the buildings...thats when you sync Sharepoint. (even via Teams). Below is a screenshot of mine. So the OneDrive is your personal stuff, and the buildings..that's the central file server. Both of those technically use the OneDrive "sync program"...it's just OneDrive is used to call the users synced personal folders..and the Teams/Sharepoint synced folders...are called Teams/Sharepoint.

I've scoured the internet for how to squash the "personal" one drive from launching, on some computers it shows up in the systray (grayed out if they're not signed into it)..but every reboot it launches to login and they have to hit "cancel"...but remember to log into their biz OD login screen. Gets confusing for some users, and I've not found rhyme or reason for it. Yet on many computers it behaves and never shows up..just one single blue OD icon in the systray (like my computers). I've tried some registry key mods..to no avail. Luckily I don't see it on too many computers...however ..both of my wifes computers have this issue..and I never hear the end of it!

Alright so you can't change it ... I'm not necessarily talking about the OneDrive personal I'm talking about the OneDrive connected to the O365 account that isn't the Sharepoint store. So it will always say OneDrive - Company Name (Which is kinda unfortunate) it would be nice if it said OneDrive - John Doe so that user knew that was there personal store.

Any insight on the QB question I had regarding Right Networks? They are mega expensive. I have a client with 8 concurrent QB users using QB enterprise and they are looking at $360 a month for Hosted QB through Right Networks, what would you do there?

Ahh I see what you mean...but then for those users who had One Drive (personal account) and One Drive (work account)...it would be confusing. Some people run both. I just point out the icons to users...the buildings means the big file server. They get it.

We're not strong with Azure yet...pricing and stuff changes quite a bit and it's hard to estimate costs...thus billing. One time we did it for a SQL based point of sale app for package stores...a client that has 5x locations, we got soaked on our pricing. Luckily the owner hated the POS software he chose so he chose another 6 months later and we got to ditch that hosted SQL server.

The next project we have that Azure may be considered, I'll go through PAX8 coaching....or..via them...Nerdio.
What is nice about RightNetworks..they handle it all. Set a client up on Azure or some other "roll your own"...all updates, backups, maintenance..its on you.
