Dell XPS 15x- Suddenly no power

i am currently working on a Dell XPS 15z laptop that was having some battery issues. Computer would power on fine just say something like the battery was overheating so it was disabled. With this laptop to access the battery you have to remove the bottom cover. I did this, unplugged battery cable, plugged back in. Now computer won't turn on at all. When I plug the A/C adapter in, the light on the A/C adapter immediately cuts off. Does the same thing with different adapters. I put the bottom panel on thinking there is a switch telling the computer not to turn on, same results. Confusing because it just powered on fine 5 minutes ago. Any ideas?

Remove the battery and AC adapter. Hold the power button to drain the mobo. Leave the battery out and plug in the adapter. Does it boot?

Tried that, same issue where the A/C kicks off. I've had one do this before and the mobo was shorted, but I don't see that this could be the issue since it just was booting.

The power LED on the adapters going off right away gives me a bad feeling about the mobo circuitry. I know it just worked but my wifes car started fine at home on Monday but I had to hook up the trailer to tow her home an hour later. sometimes the timing sucks.

Check all the USB ports for bent pins. I see this a lot. Remove what you can out of the laptop and if your lucky some peripheral is causing the issue.

Good point. Pricing out a new motherboard now, just seems ironic that it happened right after I was messing with the battery.

I've had quite a few laptops not work without the battery.

It was working with the battery and a/c adapter, but battery wouldn't hold a charge. Removed a/c, unplugged battery then plugged back in- now doing this. Same results with only battery, with battery and a/c. I'm going to order a new battery to rule that somehow that totally failed in the process.

If you haven't already, remove the base cover and inspect EVERYTHING in the open area and the actual base cover itself. There's always a possibility something got nudged or a screw fell out and is shorting the board. Could also be a metal "spring" or grounding tab that fell of or got bent slightly and is now touching a component.

I just removed to bare motherboard and then motherboard with battery. Still the power issue. Pretty much says shorted mobo.
