I have never listened to this woman until about 2 months ago. She is on the radio when I drive to and from my job once a week so I have the "pleasure" of hearing her tout herself as a "digital Goddess". I haven't listened to her program for more than 10-15 mins at a time so I don't have a a deep understanding of what she stands for or her technical expertise but from what I hear she is a corporate shill that pushes the newest products on the market. Unfortunately this is what we get and is to be expected when advertisers are paying the bills for the show.
Example, Carbonite and Mozy. She tells people that this is the absolute perfect way to make sure "your" files are safe and secure and that nothing can ever go wrong. Well she neglects to mention the hundreds of complaints on the interenet where people have had all their data lost or corrupted by either service or the fact that Carbonite lost over 10,000 people data in one fell swoop! She just keeps plugging away and telling people it is a safe and secure method of backing up your data and it is the most "logical" way (which is an outright lie).
I have a relative who had 10 years of data lost by carbonite which meant losing pictures of his son growing up from 3-13 and all his business records from his sole prop for 10 years. They were mean and nasty when he said that it was their fault and they kept hanging up on him while he was trying to get a refund from his 5 year contract. I don't hear any stories like that on her show but there are a lot out there!
I guess she does do a good job of giving the general public what it wants/needs. It really isn't for advanced techie people it is more for the average person who needs some help keeping up with technology. So there is a HUGE market for this/her but the problem is that much of what she talks about is toned down because of the audience. I believe that she probably knows much more than what she talks about on air but has to limit herself, as most techs do, when discussing issues with laymen.
So, do you ever listen to her show? Do you find it helpful or do you get any good tips from it? Do you have a positive or negative opinion of her?
