This is mostly for new techs here who may not be aware of this program.

If you do data transfers from old computers or just old hard drives that customers want to put on a new machine, nothing
beats Fabs AutoBackup 6 Pro for all the things it can do to make your job easier.

I use this program at least several times a week and continue to be amazed by how much grunt work it does in reloading files from an old machine or even just copying one profile to another.

This program is packed full of features and updated constantly to keep up with the needs of most computer repair technicians.

It costs about $50 (45 Euro) and is worth every penny. I think most techs who use this will tell you it pays for itself within just a few jobs.

EDIT: For those of you who already own it, be sure to download the latest version (05/18/2015) as it now checks for updates.

I just used it last night. Pulled the hard drive from an older XP system and slaved onto my bench. Fired up Fabs and quickly pulled all the information onto a flash drive for the client. Took about 30 mins with everything. Easy $50. That would pay for the software right there.

Couldn't agree more. I'd never used Fabs until I recently. It just made everything so much easier. Client purchased a new PC with Win 8.1 on it. I removed her old HD and put it in a dock attached to the new PC. USB 3 connection, 58GB of data, Fabs set up. Transferred in just under an hour.
Client took new PC home, connected to her WiFi without any problems, as the connection settings had been tranferred, downloaded Office365, had the PST files there from the transfer. Absolutely no problems.

Should really have purchased this a LONG time ago!

As an added benefit for those who haven't purchased it yet, if you purchase the Technibble Computer Business Kit by the forum creator (@Bryce W ), then there is a substantial discount included.

And the creator of the software is a forum member too! @fabs

For backing up systems before formatting we use acronis or marcium. In cases where no formatting is being done and we are transferring from one hard drive to another, it is our goto program.

+1
Strangely enough, today I found out I can use it to copy a corrupted profile to a new one on the same machine/drive. I wrongly assumed it would only work with two separate drives for some reason.

Oh and discovered I could change all the colours in the UI today as well.

I've used it for years but never really took the time to play with it much.

The older version was very good, but 6.x with the newer options is a real time saver. Far more flexible and way faster than doing things manually and makes the Files and Settings Transfer wizard look like a stone ax in comparison. I do wish it would maintain the date stamp on folders tho.

Q probably been asked before, is there an upgrade option do I need to pay full price again? Have used since v4 now have v5 single licence.

6 is a free upgrade if you bought 5. Just sign into your account and you should be able to download it, although you should go for the tech license. There are probably still some discount codes around.

Guy just walked in with an old 40gb hard drive and a 16gb USB stick. He asked me if I can transfer the data for him as he checked it out and its only 12gb. I told him $40 and he went for it. I plugged the drive into my Startech dock, plugged in the USB, ran Fab's, cleaned up the output a little and all done. He will pick it up Monday morning. $40 for 5 minutes real work. :D

What?!? This is AWESOME! Now, why didn't I think of that. There are lots of times when making a new profile is the best answer - I am definitely going to give this a try next time.

For someone who's hobby is buying software and then watching it gather dust on the shelf, this program is probably the best money I've ever spent.

Fabs and acronis do completely different things.

Ok, I get it now. I just purchased Fabs. Oddly, when I first started it I accepted the EULA and it wrote an .ini file to my desktop. If I delete the file it asks again for me to accept the EULA. If I leave it on the desktop it doesn't. I prefer a relatively cleans desktop, so how can I have it write it someplace else?
