Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Unfortunately too many of my clients do care what browser they are using. You can try and hide Internet Explorer but the only reason they will use chrome or edge is so that they can google how to use IE in windows 10 again.
Mine are well trained not to click on a blue E to access the internet. At least Ublock can be installed in Edge without an MS account.

Actually - Once I have them chat with Chrome they are blown away and want all their IE favorites and stuff moved over ASAP. I still leave little microphones for the desktops as a freebee where ever I go.

EDUCATION is the key.

I would say that most of our customers are using chrome these days and are getting away from IE. We still have too many stubborn ones though that refuse to change no matter what. They just have to realize the hard way that it is going to cost them in time and money if they want to keep using IE though.

This thread has gone way off topic!
But...
I prefer Opera. It is fast and stable and with the built in VPN is big plus! It has a built in adblocker you can enable as well.
Settings let you block sites from using your camera/microphone/location, stops WebRTC and heaps more.
Add uBlock Matrix, HTTPS Everywhere and a custom Agent Spoofer (although uBlock Matrix does this anyway) and its extra secure!
You can add your own custom "lists" to block ads like uBlock uses.
Animated themes are the icing on the cake!
Just had a UI update that makes it look more Windoze 10 'ish. They've also added Facebook Messenger and Whatsap integration if your into that crap!

BTW, you can "beef up" IE with some custom block lists and Adblock Plus.

I blame @sapphirescales . Nobody else wanted to use Edge.

Hey, it's not like I actually WANT to use Edge. I just have a lot of clients that do and I'd like the functionality added to Fabs. I try to get all my clients over to Chrome and while most of them are, I have a few stubborn ones that cling to IE and believe it or not, Edge. Some of my clients actually LIKE Edge for some unholy reason.

I mentioned this a couple of years ago, but thought I would mention it again. We have been using the following script for about two years with autobackup and could not imagine having to do it manually. Is what it does is automates the restore process so it is just one click, even with multiple accounts.. It uses the command line controls which fabs has built into the program.

To use it, all you need to do is create a folder and then put in the two scripts attached below, one is a batch script and the other is a powershell script along with the “autobackup6pro.exe” file in it. Then you will need to open the autobackup6pro executable one time and accept the eula. This will then save the information in the AutoBackup.ini file for future uses. You also need to save your backup to a usb drive for it to work. To start the recovery, just put this folder you made in the same directory as the AutoBackup_Backup_Log htm file, then go inside the folder and r-click, run as admin the batch script called “start fabsrestore.bat”. Then it will automatically create all of the users on the computer and restore all of the files back automatically.

Gday everyone, lots of posts here so not sure if this has been mentioned but one of the cool features I like about Fabs is the ability to leave permissions where they're. Usually when people backup data they just copy certain folders and paste to an external which also drags the permissions along as well. The good thing with Fabs is it doesn't copy the admin permissions, so I can browse without being interrrupted by giving permission to open a folder and browse. Great thread.

Hopefully one day you'll find out how to back up Edge favorites.
I may have found something :
I get the "%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\DataStore" folder and copy it into the target user profile. Results are fine if the Windows builds are the same between the old machine and the new one. If the builds are different, in the best case, the browser has no favorites at all but works, in the worst, it starts and immediately closes.
To prevent such issues, the only solution I have found is to rename the DataStore folder to something like DataStore.original if the builds are different. This way, if the browser does not work as expected, that will be an easy fix. That is not perfect but better than nothing!

Great! The builds should be the same in most cases unless the computer hasn't been turned on in a long, long time. I guess that's one plus to having FORCED Windows updates.

Hi, Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro 6.10.0.30899 has just been released:

Added :
- Microsoft Edge favorites feature is back. Caution: it works fine if source and target Windows builds are the same. Otherwise, Microsoft Edge can fail after restore or transfer. A warning about this will be shown in the log in such case and a backup copy of the original folder will be made, just in case. Another good thing to know : this feature does not work for the first Windows 10 official build because favorites worked differently within Edge.

Fixed :
- A message saying that nothing was selected for backup / transfer was shown when only product keys were selected.
- The entire Steam program folder was copied when only a single sub-folder was necessary. This will save some backup space.
- Command line builder tool's interface translation was not working.

Grab it from your orders history's details or using the updater tool (click the "Fab's AutoBackup 6.X is available" link within the program and get the updated files).

@fabs . I think you must have made changes in the way the command line switches work. Now when we run our script it asks if we want to include the public files with each account it runs. Being the script is supposed to run without human intervention, I think you may want to remove this.

Thanks for the feedback. I have added some piece of code so it automatically includes public stuff without asking for anything. This will be in the next release.

Thank you!

A couple of thoughts come to mind. Currently we have the script run each of the user accounts and then run the public account, with the newer version will we no longer need to have it run the public account? Also, is it safe to assume it will not restore the Public account multiple times along with each user account, if that was the case it would just overwrite everything, but take longer to do

The program cannot know it is running from such script so it will try to copy public items each time it will restore an account. Public stuff will be restored when processing the first one. Then, when processing the next accounts, files will be scanned but not copied since they are the same on each side.

thanks for the explanation

Hi, I have released Fab's AutoBackup 6.10.0.30904 with some minor changes:

Added :
- Option to continue anyway if processes like Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Outlook are running. Caution: if these programs are locking files on the computer, they will not be copied and errors will appear in the log.

Fixed :
- When restoring in command line mode, there was sometimes a message prompt asking for public items integration. These items are now handled by default without prompt in such case.

As usual, you can use the updater tool to download this release or get it from your store's account.

Enjoy!
