Yet another Fab's AutoBackup update :

Added :
- Message prompt if there is not enough free space for restore or transfer jobs.

Fixed :
- Improved mouse wheel scrolling behavior on additional folders tree.
- Exclusion of "System Volume Information" and "$RECYCLE.BIN" folders, "pagefile.sys" and "hyberfile.sys" from additional folders feature. Copying these files is useless, Windows locks them and they throw non blocking warning and error messages.
- Random memory issue when running from a removable media or a network location (External exception c000006).

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Fab's AutoBackup 6.X is available" link within the program and get the updated files).

Personally, for what this software does for a tech the price could be higher or, you'd talked about a modest bi-annual renewal fee which is fine by me also. Great piece of software that just keeps getting better. My compliments and appreciation.

In fact, I talked about an annual renewal fee.
This will start with Fab's AutoBackup 7: The program will come with updates for a year. If it reaches this time line without renewal, it will still work but will not be able to get new updates until renewal purchase. This is not a subscription model but it will bring me recurring revenues anyway. Best of both worlds IMHO

Hey Fab, i went to get the latest version and noticed you're giving a 3 user license of Emsisoft for one year! I wanted to get on that train so I purchased a copy of Fabs Autobackup (dont argue ) to get the EAM license.
But I cant seem to download it anywhere?
Note say "download links are disable because the product is marked as delivered"
Not worried about the copy of Fabs but would like the EAM key please.

Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro is a one time purchase and comes with updates unlimited in time.
This is going to change with Fab's AutoBackup 7 to come : the program will come with one year updates. After this delay, to continue updating it, users will have to renew the license by ordering a new one. Just to be clear: the program will not stop working after one year, it will just be impossible to get updates until a new license is ordered.

It is still in development, so, I cannot tell when it will be out. I hope that could be possible within a month or two. About the licensing costs, it is things that I still have to think about because if I do it wrong, this will be very hard for me to get users trust back.

For what it saves you in time it shouldn't matter what it costs. You can't run your business effectively without it.
Just buy a copy now and buy v7 when it comes out.

Buy a copy now, and then buy v7 if there are features or improvements in it to justify the purchase.

Don't get me wrong - my Fab's 6 is one of the first things I'd grab when leaving a burning building, but we need to keeps @fabs on his toes or he'll have no incentive to make a great product even greater. We've all seen how subscription-based products can degenerate into cash cows (no names, no pack-drill - but you know who I mean) and I'd hate to see Fab's (or @fabs) go the same way.

I'd gladly give Fabian one of my kidneys*, but an income for life? That's something else.

Once again, Fab’s AutoBackup is not going to subscription model. I have clearly understood that it is the wrong path to take. That is why I choose to include updates for a year instead. Software keeps working like it has always done even without renewal. This way, if I want to keep receiving incomes, I have to make it even better every time or no one will want to renew because of the lack of new features!

I know, and I wasn't trying to suggest otherwise. I think your pricing model for v7+ is excellent.

All I was trying to say is that nobody using v6 should buy v7 without at least thinking about it first. It's the same for every software product (or at least it should be) - if ShinyThing 2014 does everything you need then you shouldn't automatically buy ShinyThing 2018 simply because 2018 > 2014. It needs to justify its purchase price, and I think it's pretty clear that some software companies have had to move to a subscription model simply because their product matured back in (say) 2010 and almost nobody would buy the 2013 or 2016 versions unless they were forced to.

Fab's Autobackup probably has one of the highest ROIs of any tool we use and I don't regret a penny spent on it, but if we can all at least pretend that we'll only buy the new version if it's significantly better than the old one then we can keep @fabs nervous enough to keep up the good work.

(Edited to add: Though I'll probably buy v7 anyway, simply out of gratitude for v6. A foolish consistency, and all that...)

No. its not. We all make money with this time saver.
Although I didn't have to, I bought another copy of Fabs out of gratitude for the ease and convenience it provides and savings in time.
But it's not just the program. Many times I've PM'd Fab with problems that he has helped with. I just wanted to give back.
It also came with a free 3 user Emsisoft license that I can onsell to cover the cost of Fabs.
Everyone wins.

Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro V6.13.3.31540 has just been released.

Change log:

Added :
- Windows 10 Sticky Notes support. Note: Windows 7/8 Sticky Notes cannot be transferred to Windows 10 and vice-versa.

Fixed :
- Important copy speed improvement when performing restore and transfer jobs.
- Speed up Google Chrome profile processing by excluding more cache files by default than with older releases.
- There could be some warnings about file dates differences (one second) between source and copied files when copying to a FAT, FAT32 or exFAT drive.
- The program could crash when selecting the entire C drive in the additional folders section. Note that this is still not advised since there are a large amount of files in use by Windows and other processes that will not be copied and generate errors. At lease, it is possible to cancel this selection now. If you need to backup something unusual on the C Drive, just expand it and select the right folder instead.
- Blank error messages could appear and block the copy process when the target file could not be created.
