Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Is there any reason why user profile names are displayed in uppercase?

I've started using the feature that creates a user profile so the customer gets their original profile name back after a clean install (and so the profile folder name is correct). The user profile name is displayed in uppercase, say 'FRED'. It isn't a big issue, but when adding a new profile it copies the uppercase name. I find myself having to re-type the name as say 'Fred' every time, assuming that was how it was previously but not knowing for sure.

If it's a simple change for @fabs to do, it would be nice to show the user profile name as it really was, and to make this the default for recreating the profile.

Hi,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.12.836 have just been released.

Change log:
Removed:
- Support for Microsoft Edge browser favorites : Microsoft has changed something in they way it works with Windows 10 1903 and they are not copyable/transferrable anymore, even from a user profile to another on the same machine.
Fixed:
- Removed forced uppercase for user names. This way, user names keep looking as they were.
- Local web browser profiles are now automatically flushed before they get restored or transferred. This avoids orphan files from being kept, creating issues.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Appreciate this. Now, more explaining why Edge is dumpster fire.

Well, I used to copy the spartan.edb file that contains Edge favorites and pasted to new user profile. It worked pretty well as soon as Edge builds were the same between source and target. Now, Edge just ignores it. I guess it's now tied to computer or user's SID (perhaps both), so copied database file is not recognized anymore. Stupid ESE databases...

They've always been bad for this stuff. Outlook Express/Mail/Live Mail/Win8+10Mail...

Having some trouble on some win 7 pro machines this afternoon. Getting this error when first starting Fabs:

Exception exception in module Autobackup7Pro.exe 002940e1.

The system cannot find the path specified.

These computers had their desktop and documents folders relocated on a NAS at the client's office. They are now on my bench.

The first one went absolutely fine with no errors, but all of the next 3 I've tried have this error.

The AV is disabled. I've tried remaking the fabs folder by doing a fresh unzip. Tried running it from a flash drive, and running it when copied to the machine itself. Also tried going back to fabs 6 and that doesn't work either.

Time to take a break. What an I doing wrong?

Live Mail

I still run into Live Mail occasionally. If it's a POP3 account I let them have Live Mail again rather than fight with it. Just overwrite the entire directory in App Data with the old directory and it takes right off.

Sounds like it's struggling while trying to deal redirected folders and cannot reach the NAS at the same time. Can you pull the drives and make backups with the drive attached to another machine?

Yes, that's what we ended up doing - I wish I knew why the first one worked, though. It surprised me that it worked - I wonder if Windows keeps a cached local copy or something when you relocate the default folders off the machine.

The reason I didn't think this was the problem at first is that the error comes just loading up the program, before you even tell it what you want to do or where you want to copy data to/from.

I think there is one left, I might try setting up a VPN to the client's network and try it just to see. Guess I learned something new - every day is a school day.

Edit: i'll bet the first one must have had offline files enabled, that would keep a local cache. The others probably did not, which left them without a local cache. I'll check that when I dig into them today.

Hi,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.1.0.987 have just been released.

Change log:
Added:
- Microsoft Edge favorites support feature is coming back. A manual step is required after restore/transfer: import EdgeExport.html file on the desktop from Edge Browser itself to totally recover them. Process is detailed in user's manual.
- Support for web browsers Pale Moon, Comodo IceDragon, Comodo Dragon, Epic Privacy Browser, AVG Secure Browser, Avast Secure Browser, 360 Browser, Maxthon and Avant Browser.
- Ability to process only browsers bookmarks/favorites in command line mode.
Fixed:
- Opera and Vivaldi could not be unchecked in command line builder tool.
- C:\Boot folder (or X:\boot or Y:\boot...) is now excluded from copy by default to prevent machine from being unable to boot after a restore or a transfer when it has been selected in additional folders.

Aloha Fab. I'm going to use Fab's AB to transfer data from a pulled hard drive to a PC that has been in use for a while. So, there's a good possibility I will run across duplicate file names. I've looked in the user guide, and it doesn't really mention what happens when you select "Keep Both". I'm assuming one of the files gets renamed. Which one gets renamed (i.e. the one already on the target, or the one being copied to the target?). What is the format of the new file name? Is there a list of these renamed files in the log? If not, how would I find them after the AB job completes?

Mahalo,

Harry Z

Hi, file being copied is renamed as file#2 or file#3 if file#2 already exists too, incrementing numbers until there is no more conflicts. And yes, this is mentioned in the log. Look for "renamed as" to track them.

No it isn't. The process of manually importing back into Edge is documented in the manual, but the downloaded utility isn't mentioned in it.
It is 3rd party
And whom, may I ask, is that party?

Regardless of your link to virus total declaring no viruses detected, I think mine is a reasonable question. The Fabs prompt to authorise the download doesn't mention anything about where its from. The downloaded exe has no properties to help identify it.

At least the ProduKey download prompt mentions Nirsoft and the exe is signed to verify where it came from.

My questions are not criticisms. It looks like a good feature.

I thought it might be the utility from Emmet Gray.
A few minutes ago I noticed the DLL (downloaded with the EXE) had more info in the properties.

Only need confirmation from @fabs now.
