Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

No, I keep it on my system's hard drive and copy my Favorite Programs folder to a USB flash drive for portable work. ProduKey on my main PC works fine and that's what I used for the Fabs backup. When I just now ran Produkey (latest version) against the customer's original HDD, it does not find any keys in the customer's original hard drive -- even though I have verified they are there and non-zero. No idea why; possibly permissions but I got no prompts. Reviewing the Fabs Autobackup log of the back-up that was originally made, there is no mention of ProduKey and no errors. I'm stumped.
I guess Produkey got deleted before Fab's AutoBackup could detect it. Then it did not even try to run it, thinking it was missing in a first place.

I used to wish I could make Fab's AutoBackup able to do all that decryption stuff by itself but seeing how antimalware are treating those tools, I am glad I did not even try to do that.

There are still home/ single user/computers who paid for 2010 and have no use for a subscription even if it includes 1 tbof onedrive storage since many dont trust the "cloud" anyway.

In my case (since I don't/won't use Outlook I am considering canceling my idrive and going with 365 home at $70 yearly and using Onedrive instead. Have not decided for sure yet. My 2010 still works just fine.

It's Office 2010, according to the client. I noticed that the Installed Programs file was also not generated for reasons I know not. The original Windows installation was broken and could not be repaired or refreshed, so I did a fresh install after backing up the data. I suspect the problems are related.

Obviously it is.
There is something you can try if registry backups have not been deleted while trying to repair this installation.
You could use ProduKey manually and try to load this registry hive:
File > Select Source > Load the product keys from external Software Registry hive > Select "Z:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SOFTWARE" file where Z is the hooked drive letter.
This is your last chance to get the keys. You may also have to try both 32 and 64 bit.

Since you did a fresh install as well, perhaps the file could be in Windows.old folder. Not sure if reg backups are kept as well when reinstalling but the file path could be "Z:\Windows.Old\Windows\System32\config\RegBack\SOFTWARE"

It is worth a try anyway ;)

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions, @fabs, but I did try loading from the windows directory of the original drive and got the blank ProduKey window of keys found. Also tried both 32 and 64-bit versions. Regbackup hives have zero length, unfortunately. I considered importing the SOFTWARE hive with regedit to see if the required key is intact or would be found by ProduKey but chickened out when it said it would load them to Computer and delete existing keys.

The client has suggested I discontinue the search; he finds that Ashampoo Office Free is good enough. Many thanks to everyone for the helpful suggestions.

Has anyone had any experience with Ashampoo Office and Office Free? I remember a number of years back Ashampoo had some software but not the most righteous for reputation. How does it compare with LibreOffice. It looks interesting but.......................

I've been using it since @sapphirescales recommended it and I like it. I wanted to try it with a customer who has constant issues with OpenOffice opening numerous instances of writer or calc that lock up the program but he is reluctant to change. I think his problem is due to system speed (it's slow as snails) but that's another story. I like that Ashampoo Free can be set to save as docx rather than just doc.

OpenOffice.org development is a long way behind LibreOffice, ime – it's a long time since they were equivalent suites.

LibreOffice can be configured to save documents as .doc or .docx by default (similarly for .xls/.xlsx, .ppt/.pptx, etc.).

I've never liked the name "Libre" Office. It sounds cheapo and my clients feel the same way as well. I really can't imagine a worse name other than "Knockoff" Office or "Chinese" Office.

Happy new year Technibble!
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.8.513 has just been released.

Change log:
Fixed:
- Dropbox path detection issue on target system when Dropbox was already installed. Dropbox content could not be restored because of this.
- This one is a bit twisted: When target file already existed and was skipped by user at message prompt, if user went back after copy job and started copy again, the file got copied anyway, even if user said to skip it again.
- Program's startup time has been improved by threading updates check.
- When using VSS mode, Outlook PST files under "My documents" could be copied a second time if they were selected as well within Outlook PST files dedicated section.
- Minor cosmetic issue: typo error on screen while taking VSS snapshot.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).
