That should not be a problemSo, I'm moving data from one HDD with a user profile of xxx. Apparently they renamed the user to x, though the profile remains xxx. I've backed up everything I can find in xxx via Fabs. I then performed a clean installation of Win10 and made the user x. When restoring should I be able to restore from xxx directly to x, or ahould I have Fabs make the user file rather than use the one I made? Since the programs will need to be reinstalled anyway will it matter? Any likelihood of file permission or access errors?
The only thing I see a problem is the music in your iTunes dB might not work anymore. I think it is hardcoded do the actual directory it was in. Just to be on the safe side I always create the account name the same as the directory, then rename it after if neededSo, I'm moving data from one HDD with a user profile of xxx. I looked under the Public user folder but can't find the Nirsoft ProduKey results file. Any guidance on exactly where it should be, @fabs ?Fab's AutoBackup already grabs license keys using Nirsoft ProduKey.
As long as the AV did not wipe out product key program. It's in a folder called "keys" in the Default folder of the backup.
After you've done a restore you will find a .txt document on your desktop called "Produkey."
This will have all the keys it found.
Thanks @Barcelona. Unfortunately, no such file found. I checked EAM's log and it doesn't list the program as having been detected as malicious, so I have more searching to do. I believe I still have the original HDD so will see if I can pull it from it. I'm trying to resurrect MSO 2010. (Hmm, my KB has gone wonky now -- and I'm almost out of coffee! Damn!)After you've done a restore you will find a .txt document on your desktop called "Produkey."
It may be gone as well.Might want to see if the product key exe is still in the Fabs folder.
Not for me. WD has totally passed the torch to EAM and EAM has no mention of it in its logs. I'll check the original HDD for it with ProduKey.Even Defender will take it out and there are 2 settings to turn off to actually keep Defender from getting it.
Assuming you keep it on a USB that is not write protected, Another computer not running EAM might of zapped it in the past. Not for me. WD has totally passed the torch to EAM and EAM has no mention of it in its logs. I'll check the original HDD for it with ProduKey.
No, I keep it on my system's hard drive and copy my Favorite Programs folder to a USB flash drive for portable work. ProduKey on my main PC works fine and that's what I used for the Fabs backup. When I just now ran Produkey (latest version) against the customer's original HDD, it does not find any keys in the customer's original hard drive -- even though I have verified they are there and non-zero. No idea why; possibly permissions but I got no prompts. Reviewing the Fabs Autobackup log of the back-up that was originally made, there is no mention of ProduKey and no errors. I'm stumped.Assuming you keep it on a USB that is not write protected, Another computer not running EAM might of zapped it in the past.
