Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner shared on network

Need a desktop scanner for a business client. It will be shared between 3-4 front desk / reception / clerical workers. My go to scanner has always been Fujitsu ScanSnaps. Haven't deployed one in a while. Have installed a handful of the ScanSnap iX500 models.

Those are great when connected to a single PC via USB and scanning for just that user. I have one iX500 in an office where the scanner is used by multiple people. I've got it set up to scan directly to a network share without user interaction. Works great for that when it works. Occasionally the settings will change and users will be prompted (and get lost).

The drawback to this approach is that that PC has to be on (and I think that user logged in).

I'd like to have a true shared scanner that scans directly to a share on the server. Am looking at the iX1500 which is the latest model in this class. I'd like it not to be dependent on having an application running on a PC or server to scan files to a share. And I'd like to not scan to the cloud - I guess I could then have OneDrive or Dropbox running on a server or PC, but seems like a kludge.

I do like ScanSnap scanners and would like to recommend one if possible.

Thoughts?

Pretty sure that just because that scanner is WiFi enabled doesn't mean that it operates like a true network scanner. Most of the time you have to set them up with a USB cable directly onto a system, then at some point you get prompted for a WiFi setup which then allows you to disconnect the cable, but you still can only scan to a single computer, and swapping to a different one isn't easy at all.

Could be wrong though.

You are probably looking at some sort of all in one, in the $500 to $10,000 price range that does network scans. Or have the user scan to a network folder and learn how to understand basic file/folder traversing.

I set up one of those newer ix1500 and it connects directly to Wifi with settings via the touchscreen. I only set up the Fujitsu software on one machine at this client, but I don't see why you shouldn't be able to install the software on multiple machines and connect it to the same scanner, unless there are some software licensing issues involved. Definitely worked smoother than what I was expecting.
I'm saving files directly to a network shared folder at this client, but the software is running off the computer.

Yep, that's what I remember from the iX500 models. WiFi setup was a mess. Although @tek9 seems to indicate that's greatly improved in the newer model.

You would think that should be possible but I'm pretty sure it's not. The software requires scansnap organizer to function properly and because of that it needs a one way path to a computer.

I just had this discussion with a client that wanted to share between two workers who were located at opposite ends of the office. We ended up just buying a 2nd scanner. That was way cheaper than any network-aware scanner.

I just set one up for a customer. But stayed with USB since it was just one user. I kind of got the impression if you wanted to use networking to a local computer you had to have the snapscan software installed on the destination computer. But they do plug cloud services so I'd probably look into that nickel solution to the dime problem.
