Need a desktop scanner for a business client. It will be shared between 3-4 front desk / reception / clerical workers. My go to scanner has always been Fujitsu ScanSnaps. Haven't deployed one in a while. Have installed a handful of the ScanSnap iX500 models.
Those are great when connected to a single PC via USB and scanning for just that user. I have one iX500 in an office where the scanner is used by multiple people. I've got it set up to scan directly to a network share without user interaction. Works great for that when it works. Occasionally the settings will change and users will be prompted (and get lost).
The drawback to this approach is that that PC has to be on (and I think that user logged in).
I'd like to have a true shared scanner that scans directly to a share on the server. Am looking at the iX1500 which is the latest model in this class. I'd like it not to be dependent on having an application running on a PC or server to scan files to a share. And I'd like to not scan to the cloud - I guess I could then have OneDrive or Dropbox running on a server or PC, but seems like a kludge.
I do like ScanSnap scanners and would like to recommend one if possible.
Thoughts?
