How Do You Work w/ Signatures on Check-In?

We are using RepairShopr and would like to start collecting client signatures on check-in using the Topaz signature Reader (not yet purchased).

How do you use this in your workflow? Check them in and have them sign? Sign what? What am I signing? Do you have a monitor facing the customer so they can read your T&C's or so that they can review what you've written on the Check In Form? Do you have a printed sheet with your T&C's next to the reader?

While we want to cover ourselves, we also don't want people camping out in our office reading forms on Check-In.

And then, WHICH topaz reader would you recommend? They run from $110 on Amazon to $500 for a big LCD display - is this necessary?

Just looking for simply advice on how you use this in your workflow.

Thanks all!

I switched to RepairShopr about 6 months now and have been using a topaz pad since the very first job. So what I did was setup the intake form to have all the terms and conditions in it. So I fill out the customer info, then intake form, after that I scroll down to the bottom on the intake form (I have the T&C's framed on the wall close by so they can choose to read what they are agreeing to, I tell them some small basics but if they want the details I have them read it. 98% of them do not read it though and so far ive only gotten asked like once to print out their intake form so they have a copy of the paperwork they signed) and click on the button to start signing, have the customer sign. Then click done/save so it saves the signature to the intake form and create the ticket from there. Then once the ticket is completed I have them sign the ticket with the terms on it, showing they picked up the computer being one of them, then have them sign on the credit card terminal if they pay by card. It maybe a little overkill with 3 signatures for every job, but I would rather be safe than sorry. It did take me about a week to fully get into that process but after that it just became habit. I have been really happy with using both RepairShopr and the topaz pad.

As far as the topaz reader I have the t-lbk750-bhsb-r. I was able to get a brand new one sealed in the box from ebay for like $80 and bought it a year and a half ago thinking that it would work with my previous software (mhelpdesk) which it did not. So i'm really happy that I get to use it with RepairShopr they work together like a champ! The one question I seem to get asked more than anything when they goto sign is they ask do I just sign on the blank screen. I have not had a chance to figure out how to get it programmed so it has some kind of signature line on it

Thank you for this @Hep, this is valuable information.

I like having a framed copy of the T&C's on the wall... and I like the signature on p/u (that should be built into RS).

(t-lbk750-bhsb-r for $80 ??!! - wow - highly jealous).

I was doing a bit of research and that model looks awesome. Right up until I read on the RS help forum that the Topaz Tabs *MAY* be compatible in the future (http://www.topazsystems.com/tabletdisplays.html).

I have lots of Android tablets that would work, but having it sync with RS is too much of a pain... want something that is dead simple to use...

Maybe just the inexpensive http://www.topazsystems.com/siglite1x5.html is all I really need...

Sorry I was wrong, there is not a place for the to sign the ticket, they can sign the invoice, that way if I ever have some sort of dispute I have a signed invoice with all charges & payments to go along with the intake form signature and the credit card signature on the credit card terminal, I was using auth.net but then just recently switched to vantiv through RepairShopr because it integrates better so I had to get the Z11 terminal.

Those topaz tablets look really cool, I had no idea about them. it makes me want one now lol thanks :-p
And with the topaz signature pad all you need to do is install a small program that makes it work with your browser and its ready to go.
I did just find a new in the box topaz LBK750SE-BHSB-R for $165 on ebay

That was another reason why I wanted to use the topaz because with the android/apple tablet for me it felt like it was more of a hassle because then on the tablet you have to pull up the intake, and invoice for them to sign. where with to topaz you already have it pulled up on your computer and just click the button to have them sign. The only thing I wish I knew myself or know someone who can program the pad because its so big, to have something simple on the display showing a signature line, then I would not have to keep telling people its ok to sign the blank screen. haha
