How to tell 32 or 64 bit OS ?

To me, "W7HP64"=Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

In reagrds to the person who said 64 bit is not common, that statement was correct about 3-4 years ago. More then half the newer systems I see are 64 bit, even with 2-3 gigs of RAM. The thing is, the laptop may come with 2g's of RAM, but is expandle to 4,6, or even 8. So putting a 64 bit OS saves the hassle of having to explain migration to an end-user :p

Agree with this comment here deffiently seams to such that it is a 64 bit system.

I'm not taken it as an attack... If you re-read my orignal post, what I said is that 64-Bit OS is not very common - I didnt say they didnt sell them. How many 64-Bit OS PCs with less then 4GB come into ur shop? how many have you worked on? Do you sell PCs with less then 4GB with a 64-Bit OS?

Well I bit the bullet.....I mean whipped out the old credit card and got TechNet Pro.

I know all this stuff is "out there" somewhere on the web.....ya just gotta look.

Maybe it will make my life easier.

Cool on the Technet grab, but did you ever figure out what was actually on the laptop? Or figure out how to find out it it will not boot?

from the W7HP64 string, it is MOST LIKELY a 64 bit system.
The OP said he tried to swap hdd, and he seems to have isolated it to the hdd problem.

You'd have C:\Program Files and also C:\Program Files (x86) for 32-bit applications. A directory for 64-bit and one for 32-bit. Right click taskbar and launch task manager. View your amount of memory as others have said. If it's over 4, you have 64-bit.

Duh you can't boot, but if you could access the drive in your work bench computer and saw two directories for "program files" with one being x86, that would tell you.

I'm seeing mostly Win7x64 so far. Very few 32-bit versions.
