Will it even do it without asking? I remember all too well the days where running "rm -rf" at root level literally leveled the system. These days (and I've tried it while playing with it on freshly installed Linux instances) I'm now given an, "Are you sure?," class of confirmation. That always should have been there.

Now a days most popular distro's do have some warning/limits. Like disabling the root account. Been years since I tested that particular command. For some context.

I tend to agree with the old method let the fools burn their homes to the ground

The problem was, and remains, that it's not only fools to whom this happens. There really are certain commands that are so "extreme" that when they're issued an "Are you sure?" is warranted. The recursive remove from root on a *nix system is one of them.
