(IMAP & iPad/iPhone) Emails moved to folders reappear in inbox.

Thanks Jay -- I may try that myself. Hostgator doesn't play well with Apple IMAP for some reason. It works, but the "processes" for my hosting account (I get something like "30 processes") get filled up VERY quickly when using IMAP on Apple devices (basically, instead of taking up 1 processes for each IMAP, it takes like 5-6). This means I can't have more than 5 IMAP email accounts on one device or the "processes" max out and my website goes down (!).

So, anyone who receives the email, or replies, can't tell it's "really" google unless they check the headers? If so, I'll definitely have to switch.

Ok I transferred all of his folder from his current email to a gmail account. Setup in gmail that I own and want to use his primary account as an alias. Deleted his email account and set it up as a forwarding account.

Everything works great when I use the gmail interface but what about when I want to send an email from outlook or from the ipad? Is there no way to tell outlook or the ipad that I want mail being sent from the email he owns not the gmail?

I dont think this is working ... I cant have his clients see that he is sending email from his gmail account

Phoning in to wrap this post up for future members.

The suggestion that you forward all emails to gmail and use gmail as your email provider absolutely works since gmail is rock solid.

What I missed was when setting up an account on and iOS device you need to select " Other " when setting up the mail account, do not select the predefined " GMAIL " option when setting up a gmail account.

Selecting other allows you to specify the email address you want people to be able to view, While selecting a different login, and server info for your pop/smtp.

In outlook just change the email address and leave the pop/smtp and login information as your gmail account.

Jay M - Thank you for your suggestion, so far this looks to be my solution for this customer and seems to be working like it is supposed to. Too bad godaddy + apple = sucks.

- I would need to setup a new gmail account for every email account I have (that I want to use Gmail for), right?

- Google has an option for "alias" - do you use that? I'm not sure I quite understand what that is used for.

I believe so. At least that is how I have always implemented it. I usually use something like "email.company@gmail.com".

Alias is an option when you first add a new connected email account. I left it checked (didn't really understand the description of what it does).

But, I finally setup all 6 of our business accounts with gmail and so far everything seems to be working perfectly. Best of all my hostgator "processes" are now super low and things are running fast. Thanks again!

You also get the benefit of gmails superior spam filtering. I do this to get mail on my phone with a gmail, godaddy, and att account coming into 1 mailbox.

Google suggests on the ipad you set it up as an Exchange account instead of Other.
