Jargon in place of apostrophe in emails

How long has this been going on? It's most likely a server side issue not client if it's in Tbird. You will not have any access to server side commands other than those which apply directly to the email account. Most web based email clients have Basic or Advanced. That's usually under something like My Account or Settings. Have you contact the ISP about this?

In the from part it says from < (insert email address) >

on the left next to every line in the email there is >

and everywhere where there is an apostrophe it says ' as in they're (they're)
< and > are the less than and greater than symbols. They are often used for placeholder tags from a database so you may see something like "Dear <<FIRST_NAME>>" and in the database used to store the First Name there would be an associated tag of "<<FIRST_NAME>>" which should be called by the CMS/email generation code. If this email is being generated from a CMS or similar i would guess that its trying to generate a HTML email but its actually putting plain text in the email body, its not actually being created as a HTML email so thats why setting to display HTML doesnt change this behaviour.

This seems like a sender issue and im sure everyone else receiving these emails have the same problem.

I have a client who generates PDF letters using a similar system and if the tag cant find the correct record in the database it will just show <<FIRST_NAME>> or <<FIRST_NAME>> in the generated PDF.

No, I haven't contacted them yet, but I think that's a good idea.

So just as a slight question.....as I don't deal with this sort of stuff......

It seems to me that these style ISP/Email providers are from the 90's. Shouldn't they be phased out? I've been with GSuite since it became a paid option (and I'm sure others have been in similar just with Microsoft 365) and I have my own domain, because I never wanted to deal with the limitations of the old school retro email service. I recall the days of webmail. They were horrible, slow, had so many issues if folks wanted to use multiple devices and it was like pulling teeth to get support to fix issues or help. You had to tell clients "take it up with your provider, we can't change what they provide".(that was me when I worked in retail with customers)

Aside from a legacy email address, why would anyone settle for less? I'm sure they pay either as much or even more than a comparable GSuite or 365 suite. I know some get it from hosting providers but even many of those providers are kinda old school.

Myself I cancelled my hosting and just have email. Don't need a website.
